London 2012 Olympic Fencing
Fencing is a sport that comes from ancient Egypt and which incorporates
agility, strength, coordination timing and balance at the same time. It
is important to be able to have the physical edge and the mental frame
of mind to be good in this game. It is very much like a combination of a
dance and a physical chess being incorporated in a very gracious
manner.
Some critics have expressed their opinion that Olympic fencing should
not be allowed to be a sport considered for such events as it is a very
violent game however; there are those that disagree with the concept,
putting this game as a very gracious one and less violent that hockey or
football. Ironically, fencing is one of the sports incorporated in the
first Olympic Games in Greece and the London 2012 Olympics as well.
Fencing is a sport that has been divided into three categories. One is
the fencing which is played with a foil, where you are supposed to work
with the tip of the blade. The target is the torso and players need to
wear metallic vests. This is considered to be the first stage of the
game and this is where the beginners start to learn how to play the game
as this kind of game needs to have a lot of body work to be
incorporated and which gives the players a very good background into the
sport.
The next stage of the game is the epee, which is very much the same as
the foil game, however, the target is the whole body, and therefore the
players need to have more concentration and subtle body movements to be
able to avoid the contact.
The third and most difficult stage of the game is the saber fencing,
which incorporates the usage of the tip and the side of the blades as
well and the target is the hips and the top of the head. The players
need to wear protective gear like a jacket; gloves and a head gear and
you score points when the blade touches the metallic gear.
Students are being encouraged all over the world to learn this ancient
and interesting sport. It is consider being a sport that requires a
great amount of concentration and body agility and it is not a game
which can be easily taught and practiced. The players need to understand
the rules of the game and they need to implement the body movements
along with the mental agility required to be able to defend themselves
and attack the opponent with the right angles.
However, it has also been specifically mentioned that anyone can learn
fencing and adapt to its physical and mental challenges as they work
hand in hand to bring a balance which is unique to this sport. Of
course, a person interested in attaining the Olympic standards on a
fencing game will definitely need to work extremely hard to be the best
at this kind of sport.
