I realised whilst I was young that I was going to be keen on fantasy fiction after I read the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Ever since then I have read them a few times and they still remain amongst my favourite books.
There have been a number of publications from Middle-Earth Enterprises and there is an extra one in development. Before long, for the PS3, PC and XBOX we will be able to play LotR War in the North that falls under the action RPG style. While the game stays accurate to Middle-Earth it is a totally innovative storyline where you will be able to make your own three player fellowship.
The designers who are working on this are Snowblind. They have managed to come up with a new and revolutionary co-dependent cooperative playstyle where the players are forced to work as one or advancement will be severely hindered.
However, before entering the combat zone you will be have to build your character. You can choose a race between human, elf or dwarf and so far it looks as though the classes will be ranger, mage or warrior respectively. The wide-ranging customizations leads to important and rewarding RPG gameplay including established loot and reward systems.
It looks as though War in the North will have some brutal gameplay. In my opinion I feel this is a good thing. When you watch the films or read the books you soon come to realise that this is not an all out epic party involving fluffy hamsters and young puppies. It is all out war between races with Orcs who don't have a friendly bone in their bodies. While we're on the subject for you fact seekers out there, this is the first M-rated Lord of the Rings game.
Outside of the storyline, which should also help re-playability, there are challenge quests. These missions will consist of defensive positioning and group raids for up to three players.
There we have a number of specifics regarding what looks to be an epic action RPG to be released some time in the near future. There are already screenshots, concept art and videos all over the web and personally I can't wait until it is released. I will be following Lord of the Rings War in the North up until its release at The 24 7 Arcade because if there are two things that I love, it's got to be RPGs and Middle Earth.
