When it comes to weight loss for teenagers, lots of teens are uneducated and tend to follow the crowd and choose rapid weight loss dieting. This is not only dangerous, but it will play havoc with the persons metabolic rate meaning that there life will be a constant struggle trying to keep the weight off their bodies that they lose.

Teenagers who want to lose weight are influenced by the magazines showing pictures of models, actors and people in the public eye looking fantastic. But these images are usually air brushed, to make the person look better than they actually look, so don't always believe what you see in these glossy magazines.

If you are a teenager who wants to lose weight, forget about the rapid weight loss diets, which have you eating rabbit food and starving yourself. You need to eat foods that help to speed up metabolism, so that you can live a life were if you eat in excess occasionally you will not gain lots of weight.

Life is about enjoyment, and there will be lots of times in a teenager's life were they want to go out and eat pizzas, burgers and fries. By following a diet and exercise plan designed to speed up the metabolic rate, then you can make these occasional visits to the fast food joints and eat in excess. Because you will have an high metabolism which will burn off the excess calories much quicker than the stick thin person who followed the rapid weight loss diet, lost the weight but they only need to eat a slice of cake to put on weight. This is not the way you want to be leading your life, is it.

First of all, most teenagers are still growing so they need food to help them grow. A good diet plan for teenagers is one which as you eating 5 to 6 small meals per day rather than the more traditional 3 large meals. This is because eating every 2 to 3 hours will help to keep your metabolism elevated and not allow it to go into survival mode were its conserving calories and body fat.

Eat a diet plan which is around 40% carbs and protein and 20% fats. Never follow a teen weight loss diet plan which contains zero fat. Zero fat diets are dangerous, the human body needs fat to function correctly, you just need to watch the amount of fat you consume and swap unhealthy saturated fats for unsaturated fats. You will also need to be drinking around 8 to 10 larges glasses of water each day, this will help in ensuring that all nutrients are being transported around the body. It will also help to keep the metabolism running at its optimum rate.

Once you have sorted out an healthy teen weight loss diet plan to follow, it's time to get off your butt and start exercising. Weight training is a good way to increase the metabolic rate, but it is not really recommended for teens because the bones are still growing. Try to follow a cardio exercise program, which takes you out of your comfort zone and elevates the metabolism. Three 30 minute cardio workout sessions per week combined with an healthy and balanced diet plan, will quickly have any teenager on their way to seeing fantastic weight loss results.
