Low-Level Laser Therapy to Promote Bone Healing

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Low-level laser therapy, a painless and noninvasive treatment which uses a low intensity phonic energy laser device, has been known to promote bone healing at the cell and tissue levels. Besides promoting bone healing, it has also been known to reduce pain and swelling of the affected area. Low-level lasers are cleared as a market device by FDA regulations, which is sometimes referred to as being "FDA approved."

Uses for low-level laser therapy include:

• Cosmetic—liposuction, breast augmentation
• Physical—healing burns and broken/fractured bones, reducing pain in the shoulder and neck.

Bone Healing

The procedure is simple and painless and can be done at home once the procedure is ordered and reviewed. First, however, the physician will administer the procedure in his office to go over all the steps of the procedure which is done by either holding the laser device in place or gently moving it around the injured area.

What happens is the low-level laser activates the bone cells with energy. This energy enhances cell regeneration which increases blood flow and decrease inflammation.

The degree of the injury will determine how long it will take for the laser to heal the bone. Though, many who have shared their personal accounts with low-level laser therapy have claimed that their injury was healed in half the time it should have taken. Your doctor will go over what to expect in terms of healing when he orders you the laser therapy. But most people who use low-level laser therapy notice improvement almost immediately, especially in terms of a reduction of pain and swelling due to the injury.

Low-Level Laser Therapy in Practice

Using cold laser therapy for bone healing is still in the experimental stages. Though, initial research and first hand accounts have found significant healing and pain relieving results. Here are some that could benefit from the healing and pain relieving capability of low-level laser therapy for bone related issues:

• Those with broken or fractures bones
• Those who recently had orthopedic surgery
• Those suffering from bone issues, such as those dealing with arthritis pain
• Those in any industry that deals with bone injury, such as in sports medicine and physical therapy
