It is important that everyone has access to a credit card. Even if you don’t use your credit card regularly, they are useful to have in case of an emergency. People with a bad credit rating, will often find it hard to get approval for a credit card. Creditors are hesitant to give cards out to people with poor ratings because they have a higher likelihood of default. Luckily, if you do have a poor credit rating you can still get approved for low credit score credit cards.

There are two different types of low credit score credit cards you can apply for. The first type of credit card is a secured card. Secured credit cards offer credit limits up to the amount you secure it with. So if you were to secure $5,000 dollars against your credit card, the creditor would issue you a credit card for that limit. The benefit of a secured card for lenders is they bear no risk. Because there is no risk, you won’t be charged interest rate on the card. These cards are offered at various banks as debit master/visa cards.

The other type of credit card that you can get if you have a bad credit rating is an unsecured card. These cards don’t need collateral backing the card; however, you will be charge a higher interest rate for unsecured credit card. Unsecured credit cards are a perfect way to start repairing your credit history if you do have a bad credit rating. You should focus on trying to make your monthly payments on time every month. By making timely payments, you can slowly start to build up your credit rating.

Another good way to improve a poor credit rating is to start paying off some of your existing debt. If you have a large amount of outstanding debt then it will affect your credit rating. Be sure that you look to start paying off any amount of debt that you can afford. One particular ratio that lenders look at when they are reviewing a borrower is the debt to income ratio. This ratio determines the borrowers financially viability in terms of his ability to repay the loan.

When you decide to apply for low credit score credit cards, you should search the internet for a good card. Because the credit industry is competitive, you can be sure that you will find a company that is willing to give you an unsecured credit card. Once you have your card, you should focus on trying to improve your credit rating so you will have good credit in the future.
