Low glycemic snacks comprise of foods that have a low rating on the glycemic index. They do not cause as high of a spike in blood sugar levels as higher glycemic foods do. Some diets encourage the intake of low glycemic foods in small amounts 5-6 times a day. Low glycemic foods include foods that are healthy carbohydrates, lean proteins and good fats.

It is easy to rustle up delicious low glycemic snacks throughout the day. However, make sure that you are monitoring your total food intake. Eat 5-6 small meals a day that are portion controlled.  It can be easier to stay on track if you prepare all the foods you will eat on a given day the night before. Don't allow yourself to get off track. Talk to your doctor before making any changes to your diet.
