Whether lunch needs to be brought to work or to school, millions of children and adults carry lunch bags every day to save money and eat healthily. Food brought from the house cost much less than buying food and ensures a safe diet. However, you should not carry around perishable food for long periods of time, especially if you live in a hot and humid weather.

A good lunch bag tote should be able to hold many different types of food. Often sandwiches and vegetables can get easily crushed if place inside a plastic bag. Reusable lunch carriers are far more useful and can are well worth the investment of money. They are made from strong materials and can protect your food from getting crushed or going bad.

Many lunch bags can also work as cold storage containers. Foods like cheeses and meats can go bad if they are out of the refrigerator for more than a few hours, but with a cold container they will still be good by the time you eat lunch. These boxes can also be used to keep the rest of your lunch cold. Almost all cold also store heat which is perfect if you want a hot meal on a cold day.

Lunch bags can be made from many different materials. Wood, metal, plastic, and even cloths are some of the materials popularly used. Modern lunch boxes often contain insulation to make the container able to retain hot or cold foods. Some may also have space to place a drinking bottle and various places to hold food accessories like utensils and condiments.

Children's lunch totes usually come in child-like themes and cheaper plastic materials. Although these boxes don't look elegant, they are still very strong and well able to withstand the pressure placed on them by the average school child. A carrying case may also be added to make the set easier to transport around. All plastic surfaces should be certified to be free from lead or any other hazardout chemical.

Business individuals will require a lunch box that is far more elegant and professional looking. Vinyl and wood are two great materials that can be used, but they are also heavier and more cumbersome compared to plastic. Insulated cloth is a popular choice because it is light and can be made in fashionable styles. However, cloth can leak liquids, which is inconvenient in the event of a food spill.
