Lung cancer: The leading death in cancer
Lung cancer is something no patient wants hear that's what they've been diagnosed with. According to cancer.org, 90,000 men each year die from lung cancer. Lung cancer, by far and away, is the cancer that kills the most rapidly. The chances of lung cancer survival isn't always good, depending on the condition you're in. Less than 10% of those diagnosed with primary lung cancer are alive after 5 years. If the cancer spreads past the lungs, then it makes it difficult to treat it.
There are different types of lung cancers. Small cell lung cancer is the cancer that spreads at a high pace, and is linked to smoking. Non small cell lung cancers are broken up into three different types: adenocarcinonmas, squamous cell carcinomas, and large cell carcinomas. Adenocarcinomas is the most common type of lung cancer diagnosed.
Causes of lung cancer almost always leads to smoking. Smoking is the number on cause of cancer in general. However, there are different causes of lung cancer as well. Chemicals, air pollution, asbestos can be causes of lung cancer as well. Although smoking does making up for 90% of lung cancer. Lung cancer symptoms need to be recognized quickly, to get the lung cancer treatment needed. Lung cancer symptoms can be wheezing, coughing, coughing up mucus or/and blood, and pain in your chest. Lung cancer symptoms are deadly, because most the time lung cancer symptoms develop when they're too late.
If you're a smoker, you are at great risk of lung cancer. Doesn't matter what age you're at, you are already at risk. Even years after quitting smoking, you can still develop lung cancer. Although if you quit smoking now, you reduce your chances significantly. Even second hand smoke puts you at risk of lung cancer. If you live in a household with one who smokes, you should ask that person to step outside when having a smoke. They are putting you at risk as well.
There are other ways to reduce your chance of throat cancer. If you're going to continue to smoke, you should at the very least eat a diet rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants help fight off free radical attacks, and enhance oxygen into your lungs. You'll want to eat foods like berries, grapes, and green leaf vegetables. Food that are free radicals worst enemy.
Drinking green tea can help reduce the chances of lung cancer. Green tea is rich in catechins and helps protect the lungs. According to a study done at Chung Shan Medical University, those who drink at least one cup of green tea a day (smokers or non-smokers) were least likely to develop lung cancer. Those who didn't were 5 times more likely to develop lung cancer.
Vitamin E supplements might also cut in half the chances of developing lung cancer. A good amount of vitamin A (largely found in carrots) contributes to healthier lungs and helps prevent the chances of lung cancer. Long time smokers have lived to the age of 90, who ate carrots everyday on a regular basis. A good diet can help prevent a lot of cancers. However, if you simply quit smoking, that will be the number one cause in avoiding lung cancer.
