Whether you are searching for fine quality sheets for your waterbed or luxury sheets for your traditional mattress, rest assured, there are styles to meet any taste and budget. If you want the best combination of luxury and feel, then you will need to choose some sheets that come with a higher thread count. Thread count, like the name implies, refers to how many threads per square inch are in the fabric.

With a higher thread count, you get a softer feel and more luxurious sensation on the skin. However, you must be alert to some of the tricks in the business. Well, tricks might be a little bit too strenuous of a term, but slightly misleading in any event. You see, there is also a term called ply. Ply refers to how many threads are wrapped together before weaving. Sometimes, you will see something like ‘1000 thread count sheets’ but then find out that they are actually 250 thread count four-ply sheets. For the best in quality, look for the higher thread counts with the single-ply mark on them.

Can Waterbed Sheets Be Luxurious Too?

The short answer is, of course they can. The only real difference between waterbed sheets and other styles of bedding for your traditional style of mattress is the size and cut. Waterbed mattresses, like futons, have thicker height dimension to them with more rounded corners. Traditional bedding just doesn’t fit quite right on this type of mattress. So, getting the right fitted sheets is important for a luxury fit and feel.

In the end, luxury bedding is a matter of taste as well. Just because Egyptian cotton is considered one of the higher standards in this realm, don’t feel that you are getting any less luxury with a very comfortable flannel sheet. Luxury is really in the mind and feel of the beholder in many respects. You might also consider more organic and natural bedding to be luxurious for its health benefits. Additionally, check into bamboo as a natural choice. There are many options when it comes to luxury for your bed sheets and other bedding needs.

You have made an excellent point when discussing thread ply as well as thread count as being important to a nice feel or "hand" in sheets. Most folks have never thought about or been aware of ply. Now you know why cheap 1000 thread count sheets are see through when held up to the light.
