MLM Business Model For Other Businesses
The multi-level marketing business model has been very effective for over 50 years as a way of building up organizations of sales people to sell all kinds of products. Even if your business does not deal in items that would lend themselves to classic structure of this type of business you may be able to learn some things by looking at how a MLM business is set up. This type of business works for one reason. The people involved are motivated because they are working for themselves and they are hoping on the future.
The main attraction of a MLM business is that people can work hard and really have an impact on their results at the end of the month. If you look at most of these businesses you will see that it is not just monetary rewards people are interested in. They are also motivated by prizes such as cars, boats, and trips that are based on performance. Some aren't motivated by cash or material goods at all, instead they want to be number one in their area this year or to be able to stand up on the stage at the national convention. There are a multitude of things that motivate these people that has nothing at all to do with a paycheck every two weeks.
This does not necessarily mean you should pay all your employees on a commission basis. Often times that is just not practical. What can be learned, though, is that the success of MLM businesses is due in large part to the motivation these people feel for a tangible result based on their performance. Can you think of some reward you can offer for people when they reach a certain goal.
In manufacturing companies it is very common for special compensation to be based on production and safety goals. Often times these rewards are much more important to the employees than their paychecks. This doesn't mean you can replace the paycheck but it really isn't much of a motivation because it has been taken for granted. Instead, develop some goals that employees have a direct impact on reaching and tie an incentive to them.
