Make Money Online Writing Articles

Did you know that you can make money online writing articles? Well, you can. I do not mean pennies a month, but real money (some people earn more from their articles than they did at their full time job--back when they had a job) simply writing. You do not have to try to sell things or market to your friends or lie or do anything shady at all. All you have to do is to write and you will can make money online.

The best thing about writing articles as money making hobby is that it does not cost anything to get started and you can get started in your free time. If you are able to write just an article a day, at the end of one year, you will have more than 350 pieces of content floating around the web. This content will continue to earn you money indefinitely so as you write more, your earnings will increase.

So how do you make money writing articles?

The way that the internet works (and will work for the foreseeable future) is that people use search engines to search for information that you require. The search engines present relevant information to the search and the user clicks off to another site. One of the ways that the search engines decide what websites to display for a search has to do with the number of links that a website's domain has. This indicates a certain amount of popularity and reliability. For instance, at the time of this writing, the inforbarrel.com domain has more than 30,000 incoming links from other websites around the net. This tells a search engine that infobarrel is a fairy important site and the authority of this domain helps your content get listed.

So, if you would start your own website for instance, you would start with very little domain authority since you would have a small number of incoming links (as well as a scanty amount of original content). Therefore, writers use the popularity of various domains to get their content to rank high in the search engines for relevant searches and then the articles themselves will draw traffic.

There are many sites that will let you earn money by writing content for them. Some of these sites include ehow.com and associatedcontent.com and, of course, this site, infobarrel.com. Basically these sites them monetize the traffic by displaying different types of advertising. You are then paid depending upon how much traffic your articles draw. Complicating matters a little bit is the fact that different websites pay there writers based on different variables. Some websites will pay you a set amount per 1,000 visitors that you draw. Today.com is a site such as this, where writers currently earn $2.00 per 1,000 visitors. This may not sound like a terribly impressive amount. And that is because it is not.

How sites make their money

Before beginning writing articles for money, you need to be aware of the ways that the site which will host your articles makes their money. There are basically two models that these sites use. The first is that they figure out, on average, how much a visitor is worth to them and they pay their writers a percentage of this amount. This is how a site like today.com or ehow.com does it. The second, and much, much better method, is the model that this site, infobarrel.com, uses to pay its writers. You see, infobarrel.com never pays me anything. They will never cut me a check no matter how many millions of visitors my content brings to their site. What they do do is use Google's adsense program to display advertisements that are relevant to my content. I also am a member of Google's adsense program (which is free to join).

Let's take a more in depth look at how this works. When a person visits one of my articles the server that loads the page will display my article with either my Google adsense ID code or with infobarrel's ID code. Infobarrel is pretty generous and, at least, 75% of the time a visitor views my article the page will contain my Google code. If the visitor clicks one of the relevant ads then I will be rewarded with a payout based on the price that the advertiser has paid for the click. So, let's say I have an article about tooth whitening and there is an advertiser that it advertising through Google paying $2 a click. If said visitor clicks on the ad on my article, I will get paid -- maybe $1 or so since Google will also take a percentage for themsevles. 25% of my visitors will get pages embedded with Infobarrel's ID code and should they click on a Google ad, I will get nothing and Infobarrel will be given credit by Google for the click.

So all I have to do is write articles?

If you have followed everything that we have discussed so far, you may be wondering if all you have to do is to write articles about things that you are interested in and you can start to make money. Well, the answer to this is yes and no. There is a skill and art to writing articles to make money online with Google adsense. You see since you are not paid by the 1,000 page impressions and are instead are paid by the click, your earnings will depend upon the value of the clicks that you generate. You see, all clicks are not created equal.

Google uses a bidding marketplace to allow the highest bidder to purchase clicks. Therefore, some topics will be inherently more valuable than others. If your article is about Aztec kings you will earn only a penny or so per click because there are not many advertisers bidding for traffic searching for "Aztec kings." On the other hand, if your article is about inpatient drug rehab you may get $1 - $5 or even more per click because advertisers are willing to spend a lot of money on people who are looking for information about treatment for addiction. So, depending upon the value of your topic, your earnings will vary.

However, with skill you can learn how to pick topics for your articles that will yield valuable clicks for you though there will be some trial and error as you figure out how the game works. Another thing that you will need to think about is how to pick article titles for which you will show up on the first page of the search results. There is certainly a skill to this as well, though with practice you can get up to speed pretty quickly.

I choose to write article for infobarrel.com because I think that they offer the best possibilities for long term results. But there are other sites out there as well that will pay you to write articles for them. If this sounds like something that you meet be interested in, I would recommend that you do a little research and then get started. The sooner that you begin to write and learn, the sooner that you can begin to learn to earn.
