Is Internet Business for Me?

If you have been hit by the “make money online” bug and seriously considering starting out on the Internet, these 5 tips would help you get started on the right path to success.

Tip No 1: Value thrives on the Internet market place. If you’ve heard the phrase “make money while you sleep” and you also want to milk the Internet for some cash, please know that you must exchange value (an informative blog or website, quantitative ebook or mentoring session) for value (the money you so much desire). If you’re not ready to give value, I’m afraid you have no business doing online business (pardon my pun). This is best summed up by a quote of John C Maxwell which I love: "if you desire to succeed, the live by these four simple words: add value to others."

Tip No 2: It’s not About What You Make; It’s More About Who you Become. Jim Rohn emphasized this all his life. When we decide on doing Internet business, we all focus on the money we’re going to make but Jim says it’s a wrong approach. According to him, “you see, what you become is far more important than what you get. The important question to ask on the job is not, "What am I getting?" Instead, you should ask, "What am I becoming?" Getting and becoming are like Siamese twins: What you become directly influences what you get. Think of it this way: Most of what you have today you have attracted by becoming the person you are today.”

I’m tempted to agree with him as the money we make in Internet business cannot be equated with the skills we garner along the way. They’re invaluable and make us better people. They can help us to start from the ground floor up in case of any eventualities.

Tip No 3: Time is the Currency to Spend. On the Internet, time is the currency to spend (so don’t worry if you don’t have a lot of money to spend). Even if you have a lot of money, you still need to spend time to understand Internet business, how it operates, the different online business models as well as how to plug-in for maximum profitability. If you’re not ready to make this time investment, you’re not ready for online success yet. Many people say the Internet is a cash cow, I agree but it’s only so if you know how to milk the cash out of the cow. So, spend time to understand Internet business and how you can succeed in it.

Tip No 4: Mistakes Are Part of the Online Business Game. If you’re just starting out, you will know doubt make silly mistakes but don’t be too hard on yourself. It’s all part of the online business game. The most important thing is to learn from your mistakes and grow up fast. In his book, “Failing Forward”, John C. Maxwell says failure is an integral part of success; so, don’t get disillusioned if you fail. Get up, take some lessons with you and move on. Success awaits you somewhere down the line.

Tip No 5: List-Building is sacrosanct. This cannot be joked with, if you want to succeed in Internet business. When I started online, I used to hear “the money’s in the list.” How true that is! Take this to heart and avoid Internet business failure. Any Internet business worth his salt knows this and if you’re just starting out, it would help you stay in the game for a long time.
