Selling on eBay-Trash for One Person is a Curbside Treasure for Another
You can make money on Ebay selling other people's trash. I am not talking about going through your neighbor's personal trash, but items left on the curb for "trash pickers" or "treasure hunters" to take before the local sanitation department does.
If you drive through any suburban neighborhood, one of the most popular items found on large trash pick up days are Little Tikes toys. Everything from jungle gyms, log cabins, play kitchens, easels and desks are placed on the curb to be taken away to a landfill if no one else takes it home first.
Before you decide to make money on eBay selling curbside treasures, make sure you have room to store your loot. You do not want other people's clutter overrunning your own home! These Little Tikes items are large and cumbersome.
You also have to be committed to being home or willing to drive somewhere to meet people and deliver the auctioned items. Unlike shipping items at your own convenience, waiting for someone to show up at your home or at a mutually agreed upon place takes more time. Whichever way you choose to do it, be safe. Always have a friend of family member with you and never go alone.
In order to make money selling other people's unwanted items on Ebay, you need to do a completed search in advance on the items for which you are treasure hunting. If you do a completed search for "Little Tykes toy chest" you will see pictures of what sells and for how much. Conversely, you will also see items that are not popular and that you could leave on the curb. Because Ebay only has two weeks of completed auctions searches available, you may want to watch for a few weeks and see which items consistently sell for a great price.
A few items to look for on trash day that sell on Ebay are:
Little Tikes Climbers and Playgrounds
Little Tikes Activity Garden
Little Tikes Washer/Dryer and Ironing Board
Little Tikes Victorian Kitchen
Little Tikes Cozy Cottage Playhouse
Little Tikes Log Cabin
Do not be embarrassed when you are collecting from the curb items to sell on Ebay. The people who should feel this way are those who are knowingly throwing away perfectly good items when there are organizations who will go to your home and pick them up for those who are less fortunate.
After you have found some curbside treasure, it is time to put in a little work if you want to make money on Ebay. Get a large bucket and some hot sudsy water and give the items a good cleaning. This is a good time to get the kids involved with some of the work. Be extra careful around stickers so they remain as pristine as possible. If the items have crayon on them some steel wool will get the marks out without too much effort.
Take multiple pictures of your item before you upload it. Be sure to disclose any scratches or peeled stickers in your description, as well as that this item for "pick up only".
By using these simple guidelines, you are on your way to making money selling other people's trash on Ebay.
