Both children and adults can enjoy making these flower embellishments. Made from oval-shaped pieces of paper, they are easy and fun to assemble. I made my oval shapes with a pattern template. You can print the shapes over the top of some colored or patterned paper and then cut them out by hand. Alternatively, you can use a shaped punch or a craft cutting machine to do all the hard work for you.
To make an oval template to use for this craft, draw or print this shape on a piece of thick card and cut it out. You then have a template that you can draw around on to your own choice of papers. Having a cardboard template makes it easy for you to draw around even small pieces of scrapbook paper to create the petals needed for this design.
1: Make 8 Oval Paper Petals
Use an oval-shaped template or a large paper punch to make 8 petals from paper. I like to use scrapbook papers for a lot of my crafts but you can also use pretty gift wrap, the pages from any unwanted books and magazines or even newsprint. I found some fun pastel papers that had two designs on with a solid color and a pattern.
When you have your 8 oval shapes ready, you can apply an edge color. To add color around the paper petals, wipe a craft ink pad carefully across the edges. This makes each petal stand out a little more on the finished design.
2: Punch Holes in Each Oval
You need to punch a hole at one end of an oval, preferably in the center. When you have punched the first hole, you can use it to make sure all the other petals have a hole in the same spot.
Position the punched oval over the top of the others, one by one. Make a mark through the punched hole with a pencil so you know where to punch a hole on the rest of the petals. This way you can get the holes all in the same place. It will make a neater looking flower embellishment.
3: Secure the Petals with a Brad
You will need a craft brad or a paper fastener to secure all the petals. Line up all eight paper shapes so that the punched holes are in the same place. Push the metal prongs of a brad or paper fastener through all the holes. Once the prongs are through the holes you can pull them apart at the back to fasten. You can now move all the petals round in a circle to make a flower shape.
4: Embellishing the Flower Design
Prior to securing the paper fastener or brad in place, you may want to add in some small fabric flowers. You can get fabric and paper flowers that come with holes already in the middle ready for pushing a brad through.
This makes more of a three-dimensional decoration that looks pretty and cute for card making, scrapbooking and gift tags. I like how a very easy paper flower can make such an eye-catching design. These decorations can stand out more by layering them up using 3D foam squares.

Easy Flower Decorations are a Good Craft Activity
This can make a good craft for kids and especially in the spring and summer seasons when you are likely to do this along with many other floral activities. It is suitable for those who are old enough to use scissors, a hole punch and paper fasteners.
You can team up this activity along with making some simple paper butterflies. I used the butterflies along with these flower designs with my daughter to explain why these insects visit flowers.
