By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 0

A cute beach house sign can add a touch of whimsy and beach inspiration to any room.

So what should you look for in beach sign? It can be anything you want it to be.

Here is an easy way to create your own beach house signs for almost nothing. First, you will need an old piece of wood or maybe another sign you want to recycle and turn into something else.

Take a look at some signs for sale online that you like and see if you can recreate the look or use it as inspiration to make something cuter.

First, get your paintbrush and paint color of choice together. You will want to lay out some newspaper or old cloth to protect your work surface.

Next, lay your old sign out and start to paint it. You will probably need at least 2 to 3 coats of paint to completely cover your sign up.

Once your painting job is complete, get some pretty stencils and arrange them to create a saying of your choice. Here are a few ideas to get you started: At the beach, Down by the seashore, She sells sea shells, Welcome to our beach home, Down by the beach, Mermaid watch, etc.

When you are laying out your stencils be sure to tape them down so they do not move during painting. It will make it easier and you do not have to worry about them moving.

To make your beach sign stand out, you should use a contrasting color for your stencil painting. You might want to consider color combinations such as yellow on white, blue on white, yellow on blue, red on white for something a little more nautical. You can also try some cute cabana color combinations such as yellow and pink or yellow and green. Do a little experimenting and have fun.

Once you are done, allow the words time to dry and get ready to hang. You can add cute seashells, a starfish, mermaid stencils or drawings to your beach sign as well. Be creative and you may just love what you can come up with.

These beach house signs will not only make wonderful gifts but can really add a touch of beach to your cute cottage home.

If they are a really big hit with family and friends, consider selling them on ebay. Your hobby could help bring in some extra cash.
