Make this bread pizza with hamburger for dinner tonight; enjoy a great dinner and some extra time off. This pizza recipe has everyone's favorites, starting with the all time favorite â ground beef. And the extra time off is because bread pizza is another of my quick and easy recipes. But you know the best part of this recipe is that it tastes really good, and it looks special. Your family will enjoy the bread pizza, and they will request that you make it again and again.
As with most ground beef recipes, you can easily substitute ground turkey for a healthier bread pizza meal.

Gather the ingredients to make a bread pizza with hamburger.
1 lb. lean ground beef
1 onion, medium large, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
1/8 tsp. garlic powder or 1/2 tsp. minced dried garlic
1 1/2 tsp. chili powder
1/3 cup ketchup or 1/3 cup tomato paste
salt to taste
sugar to taste
12 inch long Italian loaf of bread, not sliced
2 medium size tomatoes, sliced
4 or 5 slices American 2% cheese
Place the hamburger in a 10-inch sauté pan. While the hamburger is cooking, chop the onion and green pepper. Cook the ground beef until just about done, and then stir in the chopped onion and green pepper.
Add the garlic powder, chili powder, and the ketchup or tomato paste to the meat mixture in the pan.
When the meat mixture is done, add salt and sugar to taste.
Slice off the top half of the Italian loaf. (Save this top to make garlic toast for another meal.) Place the bottom half of the Italian loaf on a stainless steel cookie sheet. Using a spoon, scoop out a pocket, about an inch deep in the Italian loaf. (Save these crumbs. They can be used to feed the birds and the ducks in the park.) This will leave you a good shell to put the meat mixture into for the bread pizza.
Spoon the ground beef mixture into the Italian loaf shell. Use the back of the spoon to gently pack the hamburger mixture.
Next, place the sliced tomatoes over the top of the meat mixture.
Cut the cheese slices, making triangles. Place the triangles on top of the tomatoes; stagger them to make a nice arrangement. (I used sliced American 2% cheese, but you can substitute your favorite cheese, sliced or grated.)
Bake the bread pizza in a preheated 350-degree oven for about five minutes or until the cheese begins to melt.
Place the bread pizza on a platter, and cut slices about one and one half to two inches thick. Serve with your favorite salad, fruit, or side dish, and enjoy.
