Making Your Move Easier on Everyone Involved

By Edited Oct 17, 2016 0 0

This way, the process will go much easier and you can get on with the things that you would rather be doing. Moving does not have to be something that is going to make everyone miserable. If you have a proper layout, a move can go quickly so that you can get settled in your new home as soon as possible.

. Look around your home.

If you see something that you have not used for the last couple of years, now is the time to get rid of it. There is no point in hauling your junk from one home to the next. Instead, consider donating it to someone who would be more likely to find some use out of it. You are not only getting rid of the clutter, but also saving yourself more work when moving day comes.

. Once you have found a new place to move to and everything is set in stone, start packing up your things.

By packing up a little at a time, it is not going to seem like such hard work. Consider starting with a spare bedroom or even the basement. Usually, any room that you do not use frequently is going to be the best place to start packing things up. You can even start with other rooms of your home such as your coat closet if the weather is warm outside. Anything that you are not going to need for the next couple of weeks can be packed up today. It may seem like a lot of work right now. However, on moving day, you will be glad that you took the time to make it happen.

. Now that your boxes are packed, you are going to want to make sure that they are labeled as soon as you close the box.

This way, the box will go to the appropriate room of the new home. Do not label only one side of the box. A minimum of two sides should always be labeled. This way, you will not have to struggle to figure out which room the box belongs in. Something else to consider is your handwriting. Make sure that it is clear enough to read to everyone who will be helping.

. When you are labeling your boxes, you will also want to give them a number.

Write this number down on a notebook along with the contents of the box. This way, when you need to find your favorite pan, you are not searching through every box that is labeled "kitchen." You will not believe how much time this will save you.

. We all have certain things that we use on a daily basis.

Because of this, it is important to label these boxes separately. You may want to label them with a different color of marker or even a symbol of some sort. This way, everything that you are going to need as soon as you are settled will be clearly marked. Inform your moving company that you would like all of the boxes with the symbol placed in a convenient location.

. Always make sure that your children's bedrooms are loaded up last.

This way, they will be unpacked first. While the other rooms are being unloaded, you will be able to put together your child's bedroom so that they will not only have a comfortable place to sleep that night, they will also have all of their toys and other things so that they can have something to keep them entertained while you are working on the rest of the house.

. If you have a certain item that you do not want to get lost, make sure that you take this item with you yourself.

Do not leave it with the moving company. After all, if it were to get lost, you would most likely be devastated.
