Making a Shower Pod For Congestion During the Cold Season

By 1 1

You probably are aware that vicks vapor rub is a great fix to help your congestion.  Unfortunately, it is filled with nasty chemicals you probably don't want in your body.  With just a few materials, you can make a shower pod using essential oils which will help benefit your health.  You don't even need to apply this method directly on your body which is a bonus for those who suffer from sensitive skin.  They don't need to worry about any skin rashes or breakouts from this DIY project.

You will need to take one cup of powdered corn starch and add it to 5 teaspoons of water mixed with eucalyptus essential oil.  There are many benefits to using essential oils.  If you would prefer, you can also use vicks if you do not have any essential oils.  Please note that these oils are much better for you and can help you in more ways than one.  You can now add baking soda little by little to start thicken up these shower pods.  Keep stirring the mixture until it is the same consistency as play dough.  Be sure to add a little bit at a time until you get it to the perfect consistency.

Once the mixture is made to a good thickness, press it into ice cube trays.  Allow them to dry for at least 24 hours before you pop them out.  These shower pods should not break apart easily if they were made correctly.  If you want to make these as a gift, you can add dye to the mixture to match the recipient's bathroom decor if they plan to store them in their bathroom.  Be sure to add the food coloring or dye in the first step to ensure that they are mixed properly.

Store them in a plastic bag or a sealed glass jar until you are ready to use.  When you need help clearing up your congestion, simply place one of these shower pods near the drain while you shower and the pod mixed with hot shower steam will help clear your congestion right up.  There is no need to worry about anything going down the drain that doesn't belong because the pods break up and flush down the drain rather quickly.  The steam from the hot shower will assist in helping you with your congestion.  If you are making these for kids you can dilute the formula by adding more water and not as much eucalyptus oil to make it safe.  Please note that directly applied onto children before diluted could cause respiratory illnesses in kids under 10.  Please use essential oils safely.  Make sure you are using a brand you can trust as well.  Many essential oils claim that they are pure oils but are very much diluted and even mixed with other harmful chemicals.  Keep your entire family safe by using products of good quality.
