Male Fertility Vitamins
Research has proven that 40% of all infertile males have excessive levels of free radicals in their semen. This results from an insufficiency of antioxidant consumption. It is also known that certain vitamins and herbals contain antioxidant ingredients which can enhance male fertility. A lack of antioxidants coupled with excessive free radicals in one's system leads to decreased sperm production as well as the production of abnormal sperm cells. However, the good news is that the damage that free radicals cause can be neutralized by consuming certain vitamins as well as herbals.
Minerals and vitamins which can enhance male fertility
There are numerous male fertility vitamins that have been proven to positively impact male fertility. The following is a list of those vitamins that affect sperm cell quality and quantity:
Vitamin C - it is known that when a man's diet is lacking in vitamin C that this oftentimes leads to the agglutination (or gluing together) of sperm cells wherein they clump together. This inhibits the natural progression of the sperm cells as well as their movement. It also helps smokers who typically exhibit insufficient sperm counts as it neutralizes the toxins contained in cigarette smoke. Once these toxins reach a person's circulatory system, lower than optimal sperm counts and functions typically result.
Vitamin E – it has long been known that vitamin E is essential to both male fertility and successful reproduction. Vitamin E deficiencies are responsible for a decrease or loss of male fertility. It is also common knowledge that a vitamin E deficiency will result in abnormal sperm cell formation. A decrease in the formation and production of certain key sex enzymes and hormones which are responsible for the production of sperm results from low levels of vitamin E. Despite the fact that sperm "potency" is rarely affected by low vitamin E levels, it does have a protective effect on the membranes of sperm cells and improved fertility.
Selenium – it has been hypothesized that diets which are low in selenium intake negatively impact male fertility. Sperm cell oxidation is prevented by consuming selenium which also helps to maintain the integrity of the sperm cell. Recommended sources for increasing selenium levels are liver, red meat, and seafood.
Zinc – this particular mineral is involved with over 200 enzymes and proteins as well as having been proven as essential to male fertility. Assisted by testosterone, zinc is moved into the prostate gland and gets involved in key sperm enzyme activation. In addition to this, a lowering of testosterone levels results from a lack of zinc. This can also lead to abnormal sperm cell formation and shrinkage of the testicles. Research proved that within a 12-month period, sperm count and testosterone levels by taking 15 milligrams of zinc on a daily basis.
