Manual Treadmill

A manual treadmill may have its drawbacks, however, it is one of the most simple, cheap, and effective forms of a treadmill that can be constructed. When you are finished reading this article, you should know the ins and outs of what is to be expected when picking up a manual treadmill. Below are a few benefits of using a manual treadmill.

The most appealing reason for owning a manual treadmill is that they are cheap. You can probably pick one up for around $150-$300. When the economy isn't doing so great, there are very few people who want to spend a lot of money if they can get a similar product for much less.

Well, ok, there really was only one benefit and that was it!

There are a few downfalls to using a Manual Treadmill:

1. The word manual means there is no motor. This is mainly the reason why manual treadmills are so inexpensive. Instead, a belt is used to provide resistance against running. As you gain speed, the belt gains inertia, allowing you to move easier. If you slow down there will be more resistance and you will have to run faster for it to move smoothly again.

2. The incline cannot be adjusted while running. Since a manual treadmill has no motor, you will have to adjust the incline by hand. This makes it more like work instead of a workout. In order to change the incline, you will have to get off the treadmill and change the incline manually. By doing so, you are decreasing the effectiveness of your workout session. This differs from a motorized treadmill, where the incline can be changed by simply pushing a button.

3. Another drawback of the manual treadmill is there are no programmed courses for you to run on. This makes the workout somewhat boring and not as effective if the workout was constantly changing. When running on an electric treadmill, there is a computer with a number of different options like running uphill or downhill, and running at different speeds and resistances.

A manual treadmill only has one speed and you can only run uphill or downhill if you change it manually. If you don't have the money for a motorized treadmill, than a manual treadmill is the best you can get. Try shopping online if you want to shave off a few more dollars.

You should always try out a product before you buy it, though. Go to a local store and see how you like it. That way you not only get the manual treadmill at a great price but you also get to see how it fits you.
