Mass Collaboration Sites

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Mass Collaboration Sites aka user generated content sites are available in a variety of guises all over the internet. These sites have a few things in common – They allow users or members to write and publish content on a site that the author does not control.

InfoBarrel (this website) is an example of a Mass Collaboration Site. People come to one of these sites, create an account, and then publish content for a variety of purposes. Multi-User sites (another name for them) are normally places where you can create a page instead of an entire site. You can write on multiple topics without having to worry about staying in your niche. It gives writers a lot more flexibility as to what subject they can write on.

Some Mass Collaboration Sites include incentives for the authors such as revenue sharing or outgoing links to the authors own website or their site of choice.

Revenue Sharing Sites allow users to gain compensation in some form from the content that they publish. They could offer Adsense revenue, Amazon advertising, or a straight pay per post model. Revenue sharing seems to be the current popular model. There are plenty of give me your stuff and I'll give you a link sites but giving people ability to make money writing online is a great incentive for new writers to sign up.

Sites that allow outgoing links for SEO purposes are often used simply to gain some validity in the eyes of the search engines.

Social Bookmarking Sites are an example of a site that let a person publish a short description of articles which are then voted on by the users for additional exposure of the highest rated descriptions. Social Bookmarking is a fast and easy way to send links to a site of your own or other web properties that you have.

Article Directories are "kind of" mass collaboration sites. They are mass article distribution but have some things in common with more unified sites such as multiple authors and multiple categories. Content on article directories are available for anyone to publish on their own websites and they normally have no monetary compensation.

Mass Collaboration sites are NOT social networking sites. There are frequently social aspects to them such as forums and commenting but the main focus of them is building a large stable of articles and increasing the visibility of the sites and their authors.

The main problem with these sites is the problem with most other internet properties…spammers. People who write nonsense just to get a link back to their money making websites or affiliate sites. Some things to look for in a good site are - they should have strong editorial guidelines and people from the company should check what is being written.
