Massage Oil
At the store, there are a lot of different massage oils that you can buy for your face or your body. With so many choices that you have in front of you, you may find it hard to pick the massage oil that is best for you.
There are a lot of products to choose from but some of the most popular oils for massaging are almond, rosehip, wheat germ, grape seed, evening primrose, and avocado. Each of these oils have their own benefits and healing properties that you have to consider. But just because one oil may be healthful for one person, doesn't necessarily mean it will be for you.
When looking for oils, you shouldn't confuse base oils with essential oils which are used for aromatherapy. So here are some of the most popular oils and their properties:
- Almond oil. This is one of the most popular oils used today for massages. It has a medium consistency. Don't use almond oil though if those involved in the massage are allergic to nuts because an allergic reaction can occur with this oil.
- Grape seed oil. An alternative to almond oil (and preferred to by many), it has a very light consistency and is safe for many different types of skin. Since it doesn't react to contact with skin, it's even safe to use on infants.
- Olive oil. A very healthy oil to use for massages. As you massage with olive oil, it feeds the skin with very helpful nutrients. It is a very sticky and thick in consistency. It is very safe to use for massages and skin does not react negatively to it. It's also very common (and cheap) and can be found in any store or kitchen.
- Avocado. Dry and/or mature skin can benefit greatly from avocado oil, however, people with skin conditions like acne, should avoid this massage oil. Avocado oil is very rich in consistency.
- Wheat germ oil. Wheat germ oil is rich with Vitamin E and is very effective at healing skin. Victims of sun damage and other skin problems can see some very beneficiary results with massages from wheat germ oil.
- Rosehip oil. A very expensive massage oil, rosehip also has the ability to heal skin like wheat germ oil and can even repair scarred skin.
- Evening primrose. This oil is best for menopausal women. Evening primrose has a high hormone content which can negatively impact pregnant women (or women seeking pregnancy) and so those types of women should avoid the use of this massage oil.
