Matcha Green Tea and its Benefits

By Edited Oct 12, 2015 1 0

Matcha Green Tea is a premium, stone-ground powdered form of whole, first-rate and shade-grown Japanese green Camellia sinensis leaves. This green tea has been grown in Japan since time immemorial and has lately been immensely popular in the Western countries. The leaves of this tea are cultivated in spring under artificial shading to increase the percentage of chlorophyll. The leaves are steamed for about 30 minutes to retain the natural coloration and to halt enzymatic activities. This maximizes the retention of majority of the enzymes antioxidants and polyphenols.  The tea has been known for centuries for its potencies in augmentation of mind focusing, energy boosting and metabolic fuelling among other incredible health correlated benefits. Some of these include but are not limited to:

Weight Loss
Matcha Green Tea contains constituents that enormously promote fat loss and therefore subsequent weight loss. These are caffeine, catechins and theanine. These act by preventing fat storage in the body fat cells. These green tea compounds inhibit gastric and pancreatic lipase enzymes which primarily digest triglycerides. The ingested fats are therefore directly converted into energy without storage or passed out as waste. That notwithstanding, the compounds also inhibit fatty acid synthetase an enzyme which synthesizes fatty acids into a form that can be stored in the body fat cells. As such, green tea is capable of preventing fat accumulation and weight gain as well as promoting weight loss.

Prevention of cancer

Matcha Tea is known to be full of flavanoid collectively called epigallocatechin gallate. These are parts of antioxidants that play a principal role in prevention of various types of cancers according to research. Epigallocatechin gallates in the tea act as methotrexate which is a cancer drug. They inhibit enzyme dihydorfolate reductase and therefore prevent cancer cells from manufacturing DNA. The result is that cancer cells lose their hub for metabolism and other physiological processes leading to their death.

Mind-focusing

Matcha tea was consumed many years ago by Buddhist monks before enduring 12-hour meditation sessions to aid them remain tranquil and focused. This can be accredited to the L-Theanine content of Matcha tea which helps stimulate the mind, increase mental alertness and relieve stress as well as maintain a strong sense of calm and relaxation.

Detoxification

Matcha is produced by steaming the tender, shade-grown tea leaves which allows conservation of chlorophyll. This is pretty crucial for the body detoxification as it helps to remove heavy metals and chemical toxins from the body. Since the Matcha powder is retained in the tea, the ingestion of the chlorophyll rich powder thus increases the amount of antioxidants intake.

Energy boosting

Matcha Green Tea contains caffeine giving a huge rush of caffeine-fuelled energy. It also contains L-Theanine which is a natural amino acid derivative and a natural mood enhancer. In combination with caffeine, the two give a prolonged and sustainable energy release that keeps you active as well as alert.

Metabolism-fuelling

Matcha Green Tea in general has been proven to aid in the creation of heat in the body. As a result, it also boosts metabolic rate as metabolism is promoted in the presence of heat energy in the body.
