Maybelline Eye Liner Cream Pencil Review

Believe it or not, I have yet another makeup review that I want to share with my readers; this will be a review of Maybelline's Master Drama by EyeStudio eyeliner. More specifically, this is a review of color number 425, Coal Commander. The Coal Commander color looked like a nice, dark, smoky gray which would have made a nice alternative to my typical black eyeliner that I am usually seen wearing. Unfortunately, what prompted me to write this review was the 30 minutes that I spent digging, looking for the receipt so that I could return the makeup.

I work very long shifts, and my job keeps me on the go all day and all night. Because of this, it is important for my eyeliner to last as long as possible and perform under difficult conditions. I simply don't have the time or ability to sneak away into the bathroom every hour or two and refresh my makeup.

What attracted me to this Maybelline eyeliner was what was written on the packaging that promised “24 hour wear”.  I thought, wow... 24 hour wear for an eyeliner? Is that even possible? As soon as I read the package, I had a feeling that the promise of a 24 hour eyeliner definitely sounded a bit too good to be true. However, I was more than willing to try, in the event that the product would actually perform as promised.

Needless to say, this product did not last 24 hours; it didn't even last more than three or four hours. I suppose when Master Drama is used on your upper lids, it will last you for a while. However, when used on my waterline and underneath my water line (where I need it most), it would smear and wash away within two hours. I don't believe that I have excessively watery eyes nor did I rub my eyes while wearing this makeup. The time that this Maybelline eye liner lasted was disappointing, to say the least.

On the other hand, the Coal Commander was a great color, a nice, rich, dark charcoal as I had envisioned. It is a nice, creamy eye pencil with a nice texture that spreads easily. When you open the eye pencil, it does not require sharpening. Rather, you simply twist the plastic barrel to advance more makeup. At first, plenty of twisting did not advance the eye pencil and I thought I had a defective one. After twisting it for a long period of time, the pencil slowly advanced. After a couple of uses, the advancements of the additional makeup was sporadic at best. Sometimes it would work, and sometimes it wouldn't. I did like the color, but it is unfortunate that the makeup does not wear as long as promised. Sadly, it doesn't even come close in my book. I have cheap, crummy eyeliner pencils that last much longer than Maybelline Master Drama by EyeStudio.

I didn't mind spending the nine dollars on this pencil, especially if it worked as promised. Because the makeup had nearly no lasting power, it's just not worth it and it's going back to the store. I suppose if you have a job that allows you to apply your eye makeup as often as you want, you might enjoy this eyeliner pencil. However, if you're looking for a long lasting eyeliner that you don't have to worry about refreshing on a regular basis, you will definitely want to look elsewhere. Sorry, Maybelline, maybe next time.
