The bronzewing turkey is closest in colour to the wild turkey. It has a calm temperament and is easily befriended. The fleshy protuberance above the beak is the snood. The fleshy prominences on the head and neck are caruncles. There is a small ‘beard’ or 'tassle' of black hairs in the middle of the upper breast. The whole neck and head colour changes according to the mood of the bird.
