The Corriedale was intended as a true dual purpose breed.  It is the oldest of crossbred wool breeds. Between 1880 and 1910, breeders in Australia and New Zealand crossed Lincoln or Leicester rams over Merino ewes.  The credit for the new breed is generally given to James Little from New Zealand.
