Making Collograph Prints

Collograph printmaking and prints for kids

As an alternative to the usual board games like Monopoly and Scrabble why not get the children involved in a tactile hobby that they will enjoy. Collograph Printing is a fun activity involving glue, paint, shellac and a myriad of other materials that the kids love to get their hands on. It is safer, too, than wood block printing which involves sharp cutting tools like carving chisels. There is no right or wrong way to make Collographic Prints and all the kids need is a bit of guidance along the way, they are sure to love Collograph Print making and it might well bring to the fore the artistic tendencies in them. The above plate was made with great assistance (and enthusiasm) from my children.
