First Intaglio Proof from the Dry Etched plate
Making the Intaglio Prints
Intaglio Prints are made from a plate which produces a proof just like the one pictured above. Collograph creates a raised surface for printing but Intaglio removes material from a metal plate, which is usually made from copper. The reduction process is similar to the woodblock method and tools, scribes and carving chisels are used. The tools are of tougher material for working on the metal rather than wood. The image shown is a first proof and this allows refinements to be made to the plate before printing off the set of images.
