Red-Bellied Black Snake

The coloured belly of the red-bellied black snake is clearly visible here, complete with attractive striping. The red-bellied black is not as dangerous as some of the venomous Australian snakes but can still inflict a nasty bite. Because of its penchant for trying to eat cane toads, the population of this species took a nose-dive for a while but numbers are now recovering.
