The Sydney funnel-web is one of the most dangerous animals in the world. The male's bite is deadlier than the females' which is unusual in the spider world. Although they have a silk-lined burrow, they do not build a lid. The jaws are sufficiently powerful to penetrate soft shoes or even a fingernail. The eyes are small and closely grouped.
