Texel Guinea Pig(58992)

This image is originally part of the article Guinea Pigs

This cute little fellow is a Texel guinea pig. Texels have long curly tresses and came about by crossing a Rex and a Silkie.  It was recognised by the American Cavy Breeders Association in 1998.

For show purposes, the curls should look like tightly wound corkscrews.  Even the stomach is covered with these curls.  The curls should be brushed lightly and regularly as the hair is inclined to matt if it is not maintained.  A bedding of corncobs rather than shavings will make care of the coat easier.
