Thyme has so many wonderful properties, it's difficult to know how to list them all. Thyme has been shown to have significant antibacterial effect against many strains of Shigella and E. Coli, and so it makes sense to include fresh thyme leaves in your salad to protect against the infectious outbreaks which are becoming ever more common in the United States. In addition, thyme is rich in micronutrients and combats the growth of fungus, and is the active ingredient in preparations like Listerine and George Foreman's Knockout Spray. It also makes a wonderful hot or iced herbal tea!
