Weight Loss(63236)

The frustration that comes with regular weight loss may be impossible for some people to go through. It is comparatively easier to lose weight when you are only ten or twenty pounds overweight but when you are more obese than that you may need additional help.

Medical Weight Loss Possibilities

There are several medical weight loss possibilities that doctors and physicians may suggest. Here is an explanation of what these methods are. You can inquire from your physician or dietician whether these medical aids are suitable for you.

HCG: Short for the Human Chorionic Gonadotropin Hormone, the HCG hormone is available in the form of drops which can be added to a low calorie diet in order to lose weight. The problem with this drug may be that while FDA has approved HCG drops for various hormonal and metabolic treatments, it has not yet been approved as a weight loss therapy.

Orlistat: Orlistat was approved by the FDA and the drug name back then was Xenical. This is an effective treatment for obesity, and lower dose variations are also available. Xenical is available only through prescriptions but the lower dose substitute Alli is available OTC. This drug does not make one lose weight on its own but along with a balanced diet and workout system, it can help shed more pounds than usual.

Unapproved Medical Weight Loss Possibilities

Following are some unapproved weight loss possibilities which are being researched upon and may be available to the general public soon enough.

Contrave: Contrave has not been approved by the FDA yet but processes are well under way due to the success of clinical trials. Contrave helps curb cravings which is the fundamental path to weight loss. This drug is a combination of an antidepressant, anti-smoking medicine along with another medicine that is used in serious alcohol and opiate addiction.

Glucagon and GLP-1 Peptide: This is a combination of two injections and results are still being tested on mice in labs. It targets the metabolism and helps speedy weight loss but no one knows when this drug will actually arrive in the market for consumers.

Surgical Possibilities for Weight Loss

Bariatric surgery: Bariatric surgery is a kind of weight loss surgery which include gastric bypass and gastric banding. This is a good way to achieve weight loss if you are obese and have a BMI of 40 and above. In some cases, the surgery may even be recommended for people with a BMI of 35-40.

Liposuction: Liposuction is not really a weight loss surgery as most people may think. Liposuction is actually a cosmetic procedure which helps tone various parts of the body by sucking out fat from that area. It does not achieve over all weight loss as some people may believe.

How effective are the various medical weight loss methods available? There are many medicines and treatment plans available to help people manage obesity and help them lose weight. A lot of people find it frustrating when they are unable to lose weight for a long time.
