Big Fan Since Middle School

Having been a fan of Marilyn Manson since middle school, meeting him was definitely an exciting and cool experience. Marilyn Manson is an all around true artist that most people have had trouble with understanding because of his unique and bold way of expressing his ideas. Gaining initial notoriety in 1996 with his second album entitled Antichrist Superstar, Manson inflamed a lot of passions, which I feel is indicative of what an artist does. Since middle school, Antichrist Superstar, and the albums that proceeded, I've been a huge fan. So without question when the chance arose for me to be able to meet him, I was all but eager to jump at the chance. Meeting that guy that goes by Marilyn Manson was a hell of a time!

On The Way To The Venue

Before heading out to the venue where I was to meet Marilyn Manson, of course I had to get ready and have a little pre meeting Marilyn Manson party. Thought about exactly who it was I was going to be meeting, and thought should I where something over the top, but I decided to just dress like myself, however I did put my gold teeth in that I seldom wear anymore just as a little dress up for this encounter. Played a few songs from one of my favorite albums of his, Mechanical Animals, then I was out the door and on my way to the venue. I walked there because the venue was a Fillmore that is located across a bridge behind my house, so that was cool. Got there, got in the VIP line and started to see the people amass behind me. Typical of any concert experience, the wait was long.

Checking into VIP

While waiting in line in the hot July sun, I had the the pleasure of seeing the elaborate ensembles and wild hairdos of all the concert goers, was glad I at least had my gold teeth in to sparkle in the sun. Another pleasure I experienced while waiting was the protesters that formed on the other side of the street, pretty cool to get the feeling of a Marilyn Manson concert from 1996 in 2013. So now the VIPs who were to meet Marilyn Manson are getting checked in, it's getting exciting now! The company that puts together these VIPs provides an option for customers to reserve their meet & greets and pay upon arrival to the venue, I took that option. When it was my time to check in I gave my name and the check-in lady found my name, she gave me my VIP gift bag then I proceeded to motion my hand towards my open wallet, but she just looked at me like, "why are you still standing there?" Well, I for one wasn't going to hold up the line and gingerly walked my way to the waiting area for meeting Marilyn Manson.

Meeting Marilyn Manson

Now I'm with the other VIPs waiting in a backstage side area of the Fillmore to meet the man of the hour, everyone had their books, posters and drawings to be signed. I myself had a CD of his and a little something I drew for him to sign, I also had a bookbag to put it all in while during the show. As I was line, some people were talking about how they were nervous, I told a few of them to relax and just be themselves, all the while hoping to myself I don’t hear my name being called because they found out I hadn't payed. So now it's my turn to meet the guy, he was in this makeshift dressing room with solid black curtains, upon seeing him he was sitting at a table with these spooky type lamps on either side of him. He had on full makeup looking just like Marilyn Manson, he shook my hand and I told him how cool it was to be meeting him in my backyard, he laughed while signing the stuff I put on the table, he was signing so fast that he didn't hear me request a certain way for him to sign my drawing, so he just ended up writing something hilariously vulgar on it. It was time for us to take a few pictures, I really didn't have a pose planned, just wanted to have my arm around him, he suggested that I twist my middle and ring finger downward as he would do the same, making two M's. After the photo shoot, I gave him a bro hug and told him to have a great show, he told me to do the same.

An Awesome Show!

After meeting Marilyn Manson, it was time to get ready for the show, as VIPs, we were granted access to the floor of the venue before doors opened. Being the fact that I got to meet Marilyn Manson as a VIP free of charge, I could have went home then and been just fine, but no way was I going to pass up being front row for a Marilyn Manson show! I was right on the rail, the place was packed and when Manson hit the stage it turned crazier than an insane asylum. I was headbanging my hair like a mad man and since I right up front,  Manson noticed and pointed at me approvingly. The stage show was absolutely brilliant, and definitely was an other worldly type experience. When the show was done I was pleasantly exhausted, and had a momento from the show, a vile that had some white powder in it that he poured on a security guard's head, which he then threw and I caught. Being that it was 11:30p, I was awful hungry, so I walked to a diner across the street and got myself a $10 burger, I had a little extra change to buy it with.
