Slimming underwear for men is rapidly growing in popularity. Sure, women have long reverted to various types of shapewear to camouflage unwanted holiday or extra pounds, but men are recently really just starting to catch on to this phenomenon. After all, for many a contemporary male who finds it important to keep us his appearance, the idea of male shapewear versus men's girdles sound much more appealing and practical!

Actually, there is some history behind this idea of men's shapewear. Consider the early 19th century gentlemen who'd sport "slimmer's" which not only did as they purported to do, but were somewhat of a status symbol for this set. These were actually true slimming underwear for men!

Now, before that, men didn't always have the opportunity to buy these products as women did, and some guys would even attempt to bind or wrap their bellies with ace bandages, thus dressing to impress. So, in the natural progression of things, people gradually caught on to the idea of having shapewear for both men and women.

There's really no trick to this method at all, and slimming underwear has been proven to help flatten an unattractive protruding gut or love handles. For not only is a thick midsection hazardous to one's health, but it is less then beneficial to one's mental health. Men and women alike in well-constructed shapewear simply tend to carry themselves better, to maintain better posture, and to even improve their breathing!

So today, a number of gentlemen would pay for undergarments that would mimic a "so-called six-packs abs", so very popular today. These types of garments use shaped seams and hidden support panels, just as women's clothing do, in order to flatter the physique. Like womens' shapewear, they have also been found to actually compress size, or "inches", thus providing the illusion of a slimmer silhouette.

Yes, "we've come a long way, baby", to quote from the Old Virginia Slims cigarettes commercials, and although the shoe is now on the other foot to speak of, the meaning is about the same. For, really, these days, one could say not just that clothing makes the man, but that shapewear makes the clothing, and the man! Certainly, a slim, manly physique aided by appropriate and comfortable shapewear, can easily engender confidence in many gentlemen, whether in business or affairs of the heart!
