Mens Hiking Boots
What should we be looking for in mens hiking boots? Let me first state that the article is not going to be about mountaineering boots. Mountaineering boots are a specialist boot which are designed specifically for climbing mountains, they are not suitable for day to day hiking. The mens hiking boots that I would recommend for anyone to buy are a basic all rounder which will suit you for hiking in all terrains and all weather's... up to a limit of course. The thing that you should be focusing on the most is to buy the best pair of hiking boots that you can afford. This is true with any type of footwear it is especially true of hiking boots.
So what is the actual purpose of mens hiking boots? The basic principle behind mens hiking boots is exactly the same as any hiking boots for women and for other footwear, they are designed to protect your feet. Foot protection is basically about keeping your feet safe from being damaged by the surfaces that your feet will come into contact with. It is also about keeping your feet dry and warm, and lastly giving you much more traction than you would otherwise have.
There is much hype nowadays about the idea that you have to be supported by your hiking boots. Although ankle support is important when you are going over a surfaces it's not as important as you might have been led to believe by the footwear companies. This is because the the footwear companies are trying to sell mens hiking boots to you, so they will tell you that you need to ankle support, the support, and that support and without it you are likely going to damage your feet. Well, humans have survived for a very long time without the need to find support in their footwear. Man has hunted for thousands and thousands of years with only the barest protection for his feet. Your feet are actually designed to hold up your body and to move your body from A to B over all kinds of surfaces. Evolution has seen to it that the muscles and ligaments in our feet and legs do this job pretty well. So when you artificially add support with specially designed footwear, you are only making your feet weak. This is because of the underutilization of the basic muscles. Obviously there are some people who have naturally weak ankles; in this case they will need some sort of support in mens hiking boots.
Arch support is a completely different matter. Since our feet were designed to walk barefoot and shape themselves to the surrounding surfaces, when we start strapping strips of hard leather and other materials to the soles of our feet there needs to be a degree of molding which allows for the support of your arches. This is so that the soles of the boots hold up your arches in their natural position while you are walking.
The price of your mens hiking boots should depend on exactly what you're using them for. If you are only going out on day trips and have no real intentions of doing any serious hiking on the boots then you don't really have to pay top prices for hiking boots. But if you intend to take your boots on long treks through mountains and hills for days on end then I would recommend that you buy the best mens hiking boots that you can afford.
