Mens Wigs
There are so many different uses for mens wigs these days aside from the obvious and traditional use which has been to cover up baldness. The variety and innovative uses that certain types of hairpiece have been put to over the years is quite incredible and at times pure genius. At others it has been done for purely entertainment value and a lot of fun has been had by those who have partaken. So let's take an off the wall look at the many uses that mens wigs can and have been put to.
Starting at the traditional use for a wig, hairpiece or toupee as they are referred to as, we have the covering up of the bald pate as still the number one reason why men buy wigs. This has as much to do with aesthetics as vanity or confidence and stems from the fact that men do feel more "whole" with a full head of hair, despite the protestations of those who proudly shave there heads in defiance of the act of nature that has cause the hair loss in the first place. Ok, some men are more comfortable that way and many women actually prefer a bald man to one with natural hair. That preference comes from the fact that generally baldness is caused by an excess of the male hormone testosterone, which is visible proof to a woman that a man is, well, more manly!
But still many men can't bear the fact that they are losing of have lost their hair and resort to buying one of the many forms of mens wigs to cover up the fact and present to the world a youthful looking head of hair. The youthful aspect could well be a point worth dwelling upon. Let's face it, no one want to grow old and if losing one's hair is a visible outward sign of aging, then for that to happen to a man while he is still young, makes him feel if it doesn't make him look older than his physical years. Therefore a wig is a way of preserving the outward appearance of youth and this is probably one of the biggest reasons for wearing mens wigs.
But there are other reasons too. In the acting profession, it is common for actors to resort to wearing a hairpiece in order to alter their image or persona to suit the character of the part they are to play. It also lends itself to the ability to change wigs during a set in order to present different aspects of that character, say a young version and an older one. After all, it's a lot faster and easier to change wigs than it is to go through the process of hair styling and temporary dyes to produce the desired appearance.
Another viable use of mens wigs is for parties and fun events. Then you get a great variety of all kinds of looks, characters and appearances from a multitude of party wigs that can really alter a person's appearance. They come in all sorts from long, hippy style wigs, to big afro wigs that incidentally can come in a variety of lurid colours as well as the more usual black. It's not unusual to see incandescent pink, lime green, purple, orange, yellow, red and blue afro wigs at the more outlandish parties and fun events.
So all different types of mens wigs have their place in the way men like to live, look and feel. Whether it is for personal appearance sake, or for professional characterisation or just for fun, mens wigs will continue to be popular wherever you go.
