By Edited Nov 13, 2013 1 3

Home decorating is an art to say the least. Decorative throw pillows are just one item among many which make houses look and feel like homes. If you have a living room or bedroom that is in need of an aesthetic “pick-me-up” then getting some nice throw pillows may be just what you need.

Like all home good items you can usually get what you are looking for in many different styles. Throw pillows are no different. This article will cover microfiber or microsuede throw pillows as they tend to be durable, easy to clean, and relatively inexpensive compared to some other materials. Below you will find a list of some of the types of microsuede decorative pillows you might want to consider for your bedroom or living room.

Decorative Microfiber Pillows For The Bedroom

are exactly what you want in your bedroom. Like many decorative pillows they come in a number of different styles and colors but because they are down stuffed they are perfect as an extra set of decorative pillows in the bedroom.

These are square, 18” by 18”, and come in packs of two. There are obviously many types of decorative bedroom pillows that are similar but these are my favorites due to the plush filling and attractive price.  Also, because they come in so many different colors they can fit with the theme or mood of just about any bedroom.

Square Throw Pillows For Your Couch

are perfect for your living room. They are a square deign, 18 inches by 18 inches and they are constructed with inserts that are designed to hold their shape and provide support for years to come. The insides are a base of foam and olefin and the exterior is a decorative design in owner friendly microsuede which is well known to be resistant to stains, easy to clean, and good for pets.

There are of course many options when it comes to basic decorative couch pillows and many people like having a variety of different yet complementary pillows. If this is you then make sure to do your shopping online where the most variety is going to be found. Unlike traditional stores which are limited in the variety any particular store can keep in stock online retailers like Amazon have more options than you can imagine.

Decorative Bolster Pillows

are fantastic and interesting ways to add a little something extra to your home décor. Bolster pillows are rarely used on the bed as traditional pillows but they are quite often used on couches and other types of specialty living room furniture for both visual impact as well as functional support.

These microfiber bolter pillows are perfect for any home as they come in a variety of neutral colors as well as sizes and lengths. Wrapped in microsuede materials they are robust enough o stand up to dirt, paws, and children and they are simple enough to clean up easily.

Bolster pillows usually cost a bit more than normal pillows due to their unique aesthetic design and these are no different however you don’t usually have to buy very many of these at a time.  If you really want to make a statement with a fine decorative throw pillow these or similar pillows would be perfect for your living room or bed.

How To Care For Microsuede

As you probably know microsuede/microfiber materials are great for use in homes with children and or pets. Microsuede and pet hair are like magnets repelling each other. It’s not like pet hair actually is repelled but it certainly doesn’t stick. Similarly microsuede is extremely stain resistant due to the way it’s made. The material is chemically dyed to retain color and it is made of polyester or polyester blends which do really well at limiting set stains.

If you don’t know how to clean microsuede you can see how it’s done in detail or you can simply familiarize yourself with these fine points. Microsuede fabric can usually be cleaned in a standard washing machine if it can be removed from the pillows or cushions it covers. If you can you should remove the microsuede covers from your pillows and launder your covers in the wash on the gentle or cold cycle. You don’t want any shrinking or damage to be done but the wash makes things much simpler for you.

For those areas which can’t be placed in the laundry you should use a pet hair remover to get rid of pet hair and stray dirt. Then you should prepare a simple wash agent from basic soap – dish soap works well – or you should simply buy basic microsuede upholstery cleaner to use on the pillows or cushions. With throw pillows your wash job should be fairly straight forward and not very difficult just make sure to let the covers or cushions dry completely before using them again.

Tips On Saving Money On Throw Pillows

As you get to the phase where you actually are ready to buy your pillows you should consider some options on saving money on your purchases. In short decorative pillows are always more expensive than people realize. They are simple accessories but each pillow can easily cost $20 or more depending on the materials and quality.

Like any other product you can always do your shopping at bargain stores like Wal-Mart or Target as well as major sales at department stores like JC Penny or Kohl’s but you are likely to find your best deals at consignment shops, furniture store clearance racks, and online at stores like Amazon. The fact of the matter is that once you know what materials you want, in this case microsuede, and the size & design you want there are tons of options to choose from.  There is no reason to buy at full price.

Amazon for instance sells just about anything you can think of at usually the lowest price possible outside of local clearance and second hand sales. If simplicity is your desire make sure to go online. It’s cheaper and you will have more options to choose from… not to mention you can do it from the comfort of your own living room couch.

No problem LL - it's pretty simple although each piece may have it's own care instructions. For instance I've seen some microfiber products require dry cleaning on the lable even though microfber usually does just fine with soap and water on the gentle cycle - as always follow their instructions first.

This looks like a good example of how to incorporate and maximize use of pictures in articles.
