Midweight Sweatshirts, Heavyweight Sweatshirts - What's The Difference?
If you've ever bought a sweatshirt, or even if you have only just browsed around for a sweatshirt, then you must've come across a very familiar sweatshirt brand known as Carhartt. The Carhartt company has been producing sweatshirts for many years now and they are well known for making shirts that are very warm and comfortable. In the Carhartt line of products, you are going to find sweatshirts of all colors, sizes and styles. They've got red, blue, purple, brown, grey, white, black sweatshirts and more. They also have shirts with hoods, without hoods, with zippers, without zippers... you name it.
What the Carhartt company also has, is variety in the 'weight' of their shirts. You see, originally sweatshirts were heavyweight only. A decade or two ago, the only type of sweatshirt you could get was one with thick fabric. Back in those days, sweatshirts weren't a gigantic fashion hype like they are now. Back then, you were supposed to wear them when you were either playing sports or working outdoors when it was cold outside. In other words... the only thing that mattered, was the functionality. But times have changed and the Carhartt company has changed with it.
Because sweatshirts are now a fashionable must-have for everybody, people want to wear these shirts more and more often. That means all throughout the year, also in the spring and the summer. But you can't wear a thick fabric piece of clothing in mid summer. You'd die of a heat stroke. For that reason, Carhartt decided to put the so called midweight shirt on the market. This shirt is lighter than the usual heavyweight sweatshirt. Midweight shirts such as the Carhartt Midweight Hooded Sweatshirt weigh around 10 ounces, while heavyweight shirts weight around 3 ounces more. It might seem like a small difference, but you can definitely tell the difference when you are wearing them.
Midweight shirts are very suitable to be worn outside in the autumn or in any other period of the year where the weather is only mildly cold. You can also wear sweatshirts in the summer, but you'd have to go with a lightweight shirt, such as the Soffe Classic Crew Neck Sweater. These so called lightweight shirts have a very thin fabric and provide little warmth of their own. However, this doesn't mean the fabric is of poor quality. You can still feel very comfortable in a lightweight sweatshirt. They are a great way to wear sweatshirts in summer without overheating!
