Capri Vs Delphi -- What's the Difference?

If you are looking for a new vacuum and have made three distinct conclusions already i) it will be a canister, ii) a Miele and iii) in the S2 series with it being either the Capri or the Delphi -- but can't make up your mind as to which one from there, then this is the right article for you. This brief & objective comparison article highlights their distinctive special features in relation to one another and aims to ultimately help you get the right vacuum for your cleaning purposes (note: for a quick answer, head straight to the conclusion).

Cleaning Power & Fitted Motor

Both the Capri and the Delphi are fitted with the 'set' Miele S2 motor -- the 1,200 watt specially Miele manufactured (with a protection function) the 'Vortex' motor, which allows both machines to perform to an incredibly high cleaning standard (so high in fact that it is institutionally recognised by the well reknown 'Good Housekeeping' & awarded an accreditationlabel, hence a proven top performer). They are also both fitted with six option rotary setting (placed on the up-top canister) to allow altering of air-flow in line with various floor types (low pile carpets, tiled flooring, rug types etc.) to gain an optimal clean.

Mobility & Manoeuvrability

Weight: 9.5 lbs | Specifications: D: 9.4 x H: 22.7 x W: 15.2 inches |

Where they are both canister style vacuums (if you are more used to uprights, then it is worth giving them a test-run to see if you like it) and weigh in at just 9.5 lbs, it means they can be considered pretty lightweight (given that your usual canister vacuum weighs well over 12 lbs) and as a result of this are pretty agile and extremely easy to use (backed by numerous shining Miele S2 reviews). Moreover, seeing the size specs also -- they are fairly compact vacuum cleaners as well so there should be no real problems with storage etc.

Practical Features & Specifications

Noise: Approximately 68 dB | Max Cleaning Reach: 29.5 ft | Bin Capacity: 4.76 qt |

Both versions are economically efficient & have also been designed to be highly practical & ergonomic machines as well. For instance, they are provided with an impressive 29.5 ft cleaning radius through use of stainless steel telescope wand to allow for ease-of-use & reach with a fitted 'XXL' handle to allow the user ultimate control and to pretty much simply the chore in hand. Moreover, they have been fitted with one of the largest vacuum bin capacities on the market at 5.4 litres (when you consider the largest Dyson canister -- DC39 -- has one of just 2.3 litres). It has also been fitted with a few nice extra touches that you will come across when using the machine such as the automatic rewind cord mechanism & safety over-heating shut off system. There will also be the surprising positive you come across at just how quiet the machine is in operation -- at just 68 dB (similar to that of talking within a restaurant).

The Difference in Attachments, Accessories & Cleaner Head

This is where the major differences come in, between that of the Capri & Delphi. However, to firstly mention what is being 'kept the same' with regards to the on board accesories: the crevice tool (for cleaning tight and awkward gaps), the bursh tool (to enable powered dusting) as well as the upholstery tool (for furniture & curtains etc.) being contained by a VarioCip.

The Capri

  • The Turbo Comfort Brush (STB 205-3) - produced for easy vacuuming on rugs, bare floors & low pile carpets -- with a fitted rotating brush & wide-thread lifters that act in draw air through the cleaner head allowing to loosen dirt & debris and suck up hair & fluff etc. (with a fitted adjusting system to alter to different carpet lengths). Moreover, it is fitted with a buffer strip to help shield your furniture from scuff damage. The cleaner head is ideally meant for cut pile carpet and produces a great finish to your carpet.
  • The Parquet Floor Tool (SBB Parquet-3) a soft cleaning tool fitted with fine and natural bristles for cleaning use on sensitive hard based flooring, in order to minimize risk of potential scratching.

The Delphi

  • The Electro Comfort Brush (SEB 217-3) - this is pretty much Miele's 'best' (well most effective) cleaner head -- where it is powered through an electrically driven floating cleaner with swivel mount which hence allows the user two major positives: firstly, they will have complete control and excellent manoeuvrability and secondly a very powerful cleaner head that is particularly good on low to medium pile carpeting (as well as on rugs & hard smooth flooring as well). Moreover, it is fitted with a 'Deluxe' handle which gives makes the vacuuming task even easier!

Filtration Mechanism & Further Information

The filtration system fitted within the vacuums is that of the standard AirClean filter-bag that acts to prevent allergens and dust from being expelled into the air whilst vacuuming. However, you also have the option additionally invest in a Highly efficient particulate air (HEPA) filter especially produced by Miele to capture even more (99.9 + %) -- which is especially recommended for those who are asthmatics or allergy sufferers.

With the backing of a warranty of an initial 2 years for both parts and labour and then a huge 7 years for the motor and casing, you should also note that they are built to (and regularly) last the life span of twenty plus years. Moreover, you should also note that Miele is ranked with the "Highest in Customer Satisfaction with Canister vacuums" - J.D Power & Associates.

Conclusion: Should You Buy the Miele S2: Capri or Delphi?

As seen the clear difference comes within the accessories and which one better suits you preferences -- both are intended for low to mid pile carpeting along with hard flooring & rugs etc. both the attachments provided go about them in a slightly different manner. Moreover, there are subtle variations between the two as well such as the electric hose for the Capri, but the Delphi has non-electic one. Which one is right for you depends on your type of flooring & home as well as your cleaning preferences, but it is somewhat clear that the Delphi is a sort of next step up from the Capri.

Please do let me know which one you have chosen and why? Further note, that any of the additional attachments, devices, filters can all be interchanged between the S2 when bought individually -- in case you wanted to improve your vacuum later on.
