Olympus Vs Capri - What's the Difference?
If you are wanting to workout the difference between the models of the 'Olympus' and 'Capri' within the Miele canister S2(121) series, then you are in the right place. Below, is a brief and objective comparison detailing both their differences as well as their similarities -- ultimately helping you decipher which one is best suited to your cleaning needs (note: for a quick answer, head straight to the conclusion).
Cleaning Power & Fitted Motor
Both the S2: Olympus and the Capri are fitted with the same very powerful Miele manufactured 1,200 watt 'vortex' motor, which really is more than sufficient to carrying out an excellent cleaning job in your home (which is proven by having the S2 series accredited with the prestigious 'Good Housekeeping' award) and a motor protection mechanism. With each being based with a 'six-stage' rotary suction setting (based on the top of the canister) allowing you to adjust to the type surface you are cleaning (e.g. rugs, low pile carpeting, hard wooden flooring etc. -- which you can determine through the symbols labelled) in order to maximise cleaning performance & efficiency.

Mobility & Manoeuvrability
Weight: 9.5 lbs | Specifications: D: 9.4 x H: 22.7 x W: 15.2 inches |
Obviously both are canister operated vacuums and they weighing at just under 10 lbs, hence they are both pretty agile & lightweight (especially if you consider the standard cylinder vacuum comes in at just over 13 lbs, as with the case with some other Miele canister models) which obviously gives the distinct advantage of being easy-to-use & move around. And they really are. Great to manoeuvre around on all floor types (which many a review & owner has or would attest to) -- I have rarely ever come across a review complaining about this particular aspect with the S2 series. As you can see from the specifications too, they are fairly compact as well -- hence they don't really offer any storage issues.

Practical Features & Specifications
Noise: Approximately 68 dB | Max Cleaning Reach: 29.5 ft | Bin Capacity: 4.76 qt |
Both models have been designed with the intent of being highly economically efficient & practical from their huge bin capacities (5.4 litres, 1.19 gallons making it the biggest within the Miele range) & pretty extensive 29.5 ft cleaning radius through use of a 'telescopic' stainless steel wand -- allowing for effortless reach (with an 'XXL' handle to provide further practicality). Moreover, if you are looking for a vacuum on the quieter side of things -- at a reported 68 decibel -- vacuum cleaners really don't get much quieter than the Miele S2 series. They are also fitted with an automatic re-wind mechanism to retract the vacuum's cord (saving you the hassle of winding it back up again) & safety over-heating shut off system.
The Difference in Attachments, Accessories & Cleaner Head
Now this is where the two models differentiate from one another, but firstly lets go over what are the same -- they both receive a dusting brush (basically allow powered dusting), upholstery tool (for furniture etc.) and a crevice nozzle (for tight & awkward gaps) which are all held by a VarioClip.
- The Combination Floor Tool (SBD 350-3) - this classic brush tool is basically designed for effortless use of transition between smooth (hard) floors to carpeted (soft) flooring via a click of the 'rocker' (foot) switch -- for use on bare floors & low pile carpets. Designed with a wide width & double jointed axis allows this cleaner head to have permanent floor suction allowing for an uninterrupted clean.
- The Turbo Comfort Brush (STB 205-3) - manufactured for effortless vacuuming on area rugs, bare floors & low pile carpets -- it is encompassed with a rotating brush & wide-thread lifters that works to drawn in air through the cleaner head which consequently loosens dirt & sucks up dust & hair. It has a 'buffer strip' to protect your furniture from scuff damage also. Ideally, ment for low cut pile & produces a fantastic finish to your carpet - with an adjustment mechanism to alter to different carpet heights.
- The Parquet Floor Tool (SBB Parquet-3) - specially fesigned 100% natural bristles to allow for smooth cleaning (to prevent scratching on sensitive flooring & surfaces) on hard delicate surfaces.
Filtration Mechanism & Further Information
The filtration system for the Olympus & Capri is a standard AirClean filter bag (with an indicator) to prevent allergens and dust from being expelled into the air whilst vacuuming -- you have the option to get a dedicated HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) filter to capture even more particles even as small as o.3 microns (especially recommended for those who are asthmatic or allergy sufferers).
In terms of the guarantee structure that is in place with both the Olympus & Capri you get an initial 2 year warranty that backs both parts & labour and then a further extended 7 year guarantee to cover both casing & the motor -- fairly impressive considering the durability the Miele canister is intended for (an average of twenty plus years). Furthermore, you will also want to note Miele is ranked with the "Highest in Customer Satisfaction with Canister vacuums" - J.D Power & Associates.
Conclusion: Should You Buy the Miele S2: Olympus or Capri?
As seen the main difference comes with the cleaner heads and their intended use -- with the Olympus aimed for those with flooring of 'low pile carpeting' (& rugs etc.), whereas the Capri is aimed for those with 'low to mid pile carpeting' (& rugs etc.). In essence, the Capri is much like the 'next' step up to that of the Olympus -- where you can get a fair bit more functionality and better overall cleaning experience from it.
