Military pay calculator is a very useful tool for both the service person as well as his or her family. Here you can find a number of calculators which you can try and also please take into account the number of particularities and notes which I have gathered through my research.

One very important thing you should know about any calculators, be it military pay calculators or any other is that they are not guaranteed to give 100% accurate result even though they often do their best to come close to that. Often there are numerous factors which make the reality different from the calculator, but they are a really great tool to get you quite close to your numbers.

SOME DEFINITIONS FOR MILITARY PAY CALCULATORS:


Keep in mind when using a military pay calculator. Make sure to use the correct ones in order to receive a more accurate calculation)

Deployed:

He has left his command and gone to another location for a certain amount of time before returning to his command.

Stationed:

He is staying there, his command is there, and then he will move to a new command after a certain amount of time.

BAS

BAS is meant to offset costs for a member's meals. The following Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS) rates are the new rates effective Jan. 1, 2009. Officers $223.04/month. Enlisted Members $323.87/month.

BAH

Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH). BAH is an allowance to offset the cost of housing when you do not receive government-provided housing.

PMOS:

Your Job. Primary Military Occupational Specialty.

DFAC:

Dining Facility (US DoD)

 

PARTICULARITIES & NOTES FOR MILITARY PAY CALCULATORS:

(In no particular order)

  • If stationed overseas COLA can help pay for higher costs of living
  • BAS can help to pay for food
  • If the stationed location is not a combat zone one does not quality for IDP or HFP
  • Housing allowance, which varies based on your duty station but averages over $1,000 a month for O-1s
  • Food allowance which is close to $300 for officers (less than enlisted)
  • Concerning health, you get a free medical for you and your family, free dental for yourself and discounted dental for your family
  • Total benefits and pay can add up to over $60,000 depending on your duty station.
  • As a lower enlisted member you would be living in the barracks, and eating in the chow hall. You would not get BAH or BAS.
  • The only time you will not pay taxes is if you are deployed to a combat zone.
  • While in training you will receive that Base Pay (+1.4 percent), but you will not receive BAS or BAH while in training.
  • BAS or BAH that is for Soldiers that are married and living in government housing or off post.

 

MILITARY PAY WHEN DEPLOYED IN A COMBAT ZONE:

Below you can see some of the extra compensation entitled to service persons deployed in a combat zone. Please go to the military for life website to see the full listing (link at the bottom).

  • BAS / Separate Rations.
  • OCONUS incidental per diem at $3.50 a day or $105 a month.
  • Hostile Fire Pay (HFP)/Imminent Danger Pay (IDP). Service Members receive $225.00 a month for each month.
  • Combat Zone Tax Exclusion (CZTE). All pay for both enlisted personnel and warrant officers is tax exempt for the months spent in the CZTE area.
  • Hardship Duty Pay-Location (HDP-L). Service members who serve over 30 days in designated areas receive an amount varying from $50 to $150 per month. Members serving in areas such as Afghanistan and Iraq qualify for both Imminent Danger Pay and Hardship Duty Pay and can earn up to $325 per month in additional compensation.
