What Makes Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition Different Than Standard Edition?

Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition

Okay, so I may have messed up!  Not a huge mess up, because it is fairly easy to correct.

My son recently became a big fan of the Mortal Kombat game.  He used to play it when he went to his friend's house, so naturally, he asked me to start buying this game for him.  Of course I went ahead and bought him Mortal Kombat 9.  He was happy with this, but he kept playing it and playing it and slowly unlocking costumes and stuff, but he kept complaining that he could not access the one and only character that he was most excited about.... Freddy Krueger.  I kept telling him to just keep on playing and maybe he would unlock.

I think I may have been totally wrong about that.  (my bad!)  I did some research online and asked a few of my friends, and suprise - suprise, Freddy Krueger is accessible in the standard edition, but he is a downloadable character.  He can't be unlocked.  Easy fix right?  Well, not so much because to download anything onto our PS3 takes about 48 hours.  That is 48 hours of not using the device, and not getting kicked off the internet for any reason.  Not much of an option for us.  Instead of messing with any of this however, I learned that the Komplete edition has him already on there and ready to play!

Okay, okay.  Like I said, I think I messed up.  But... it is an easy fix.  Especially now.  The Mortal Kombat Komplete edition is priced really reasonable and for well under $20, I would be able to finally get my son the game that he wanted all along.  Yay!

I decided to write this for anyone who also may have been confused about the standard edition vs the Komplete edition.  After buying it and seeing for myself, I would have to say that in a nutshell, the Komplete edition is almost the same as the standard edition, except everything is already unlocked!

Pretty much as soon as you put the game into your  console, you can play with everything.

  • All the costumes are available right off the bat.
  • All the fatalities are unlocked and included the moves list.
  • There are 4 characters that are only available in standard edition as a downloadable character.
  1. Skarlet
  2. Kenshi
  3. Rain
  4. and.... Freddy Krueger

After my son finally got the Komplete edition, his frustration with trying to unlock levels to access all of the fatalities, and not being able to download the characters he really wanted to play, finally ended.  Just as he and I both predicted, Freddy Krueger has become his favorite character and he usually chooses him.

I forgot to mention that my son primarily plays on a PS3, and this game is available for that system, but it is also available for Xbox 360 and as a computer game as well.
