If you want to add a decorative element to your kitchen, installing mosaic tile is a great way to add color and texture to walls, counters and floors. These tiny tiles are attractive, easy to care for, and provide much visual impact. They also come in a variety of colors and finishes, so you can create virtually any effect that you wish with them. Whether you want the sparkle of glass, the sheen of metallic, or the color variety of ceramic, you can find it in mosaic tiles. While you can find tile available from one-inch to one-foot and more, mosaic tile is extremely versatile even in tight spaces because of its diminutive size; however, despite its tiny size it can also be used to cover an expansive wall.

Which Tile is the Best

As you are picking the tile that you want to use for your mosaic project, you probably want to consider which tile would fit the style of your kitchen dеcorative wall art best. You will also want to consider your decorating budget, because ceramic tile is generally the least expensive choice when it comes to mosaic tile. The good news is that the ceramic tiles usually have the largest selection of color gradients as well, so you can build an amazing mosaic from simple ceramic mosaic tiles. If you want to add a lot of sparkle to your walls, you can use glass or metallic tile; you can even find metallic tile that mimics the finish of other decorative elements in your kitchen, such as music notes wall art hung on the wall beside the table. The glass in particular is highly reflective, and if you are installing a backsplash in clear glass tile, you can illuminate it with an under cabinet light for a spectacular effect. Since clear glass tile is made of glass, it is extremely reflective, and since it is clear glass with a solid color background, it adds a lot of depth and dimension to any application as well. However, since you are working with clear glass, you have to pay special attention to your preparation process, because you may be able to see defects or variations in the underlying surface through a glass tile.

Using Tile Sheets for Faster Results

As you can imagine, laying mosaic tiles can be a time consuming and tedious process. It is important to keep your grout lines straight and uniform. The advantage of the small tiles is that you have an incredible amount of design flexibility with all of the colors that are available for you to use. If you are installing a vast expanse of the same color, or a repetitious design, the thought of laying all ofthat tiny tile could be very dreary. The good news is that you can get tile sheets that are pre-arranged one-inch tiles on larger mesh sheets. Now you can simply lay a sheet of tiny tiles and cover a large space very quickly. If you are designing a mosaic, you can apply your individual tiles where you need detail, and you can apply your tile sheets where you have expanses of the same color. If you are laying a floor, you can select tile sheets that have the design that you like and make quick work of the project by laying tile sheets instead of individual tiles.
