Motivation

What motivates you?

And how do you motivate others?.

Motivation comes in very different forms your own personal motivation could have a completely reverse influence of others.

Your own personal goals will be your own motivation; it could be your motivation is your Family,

To live in a bigger house, live in a better area or the family holiday.

A single person may aspire to drive a faster car or even to set up their first home and live alone.

Personal motivation is completely different to having to motivate others; the final object may be the same but arriving here is different.

Running and team whether in business or sport will set challenges in dealing with different individuals; unfortunately all motivation levels are different.

Business

In Business there will be different motivations for each individual

1 The Motivation to improve and get promoted

2 The Motivation just to come to work for personal financial gain

3 The Motivation just to achieve a task and do it well

Sport

In sport again the motivation will be different for each individual

1 To be part of a winning team

2 To improve personal performances

3 To impress others

There is very little difference in sport and business the skill will be to assess each individual and bring them together as a winning team

The team player

The team player on the surface is the easiest as his or her motivation will be for the team to succeed; this is fine as long as all team members are pulling in the same direction otherwise the team player can become very negative to individuals.

The focus of the team player should be how you rely on them to keep everyone pulling in the same direction.

The Individual

The individual will always be difficult to motivate as their performance will revolve around their self,

To motivate the individual your direction should be to focus on how the team needs them and the team's failure will also be theirs and stress how their flair is an asset to everyone.

General

Motivation is the key to all success initially the momentum will should get you over the first hurdle but moving there will be distractions with events or personalities, the main aim should be to build a team of skilful individuals who are also team players, rivalry in any team is healthy as this builds competition.

Finally disruptive people will slowly destroy ant team and these people should be removed as soon as possible, not only will this eliminate problems but it will also show other team members that only the good of the team is important and any disruptions will not be tolerated.

Motivation is the key but good leadership is vital.
