Motivational and Inspiring Video: Will Smith's Philosophy of Success

By Edited May 21, 2015 1 1

I have always been a fan of Will Smith’s work. Whether that meant him playing the last man on Earth, in I Am Legend, poking fun at Uncle Phil in The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, or playing date doctor in Hitch. However, when I came across this video for the first time, wow, it really kicked my butt and made me seriously appreciate the mass success this icon has accumulated.

Plain and simple, this video motivates you to work. It motivates you to work towards bettering yourself each and every day, and refusing to think inside the box. A must watch video for anyone who aspires for any level of success.

A Few Points Will Hits in This Video:

  • Success is attainable for anyone. Minimize the impossibility of greatness in your life.

Will discusses this concept of success quite heavily. It does not matter who we are, it does not matter where we come from but what does matters is how much time and effort we choose to put towards our goals and visions we set for ourselves in our lives. Success is not something only the elite can obtain. Wild success can be obtained by each and every one of us. Yet, Will also makes sure to note, success does not come easy.

  • Few things may be more important than your work ethic.

In the various interviews, time and time again Will describes his unbreakable work ethic that he feels separates him from anyone else. Will describes a theoretical situation in which someone is to attempt to outlast him on a treadmill. Will puts forth two options. Either the person gets off, or he will die. Throughout my daily life I like to keep that in mind. If Will Smith possess enough work ethic to die on a treadmill, then I certainly should be able to exhibit enough work ethic to complete an article, task, or project I have at hand. How can you put forth your Will Smith like work ethic today?

  • Realize the importance of bettering yourself and working towards something everyday.

Smith describes each day to be  “laying one brick, perfectly as you can”. He describes the importance of making sure you are doing something each and every day to make yourself and the world around you a better place. Otherwise, if you are not moving forward in some way, what are you really doing with your life?

  • If you want to achieve success, you have to use all the willpower you possess to focus.

Just about every fiber of your being has to be put towards focusing on your vision and projects at hand. In this aspect Will touches on the Law of Attraction. The Law of Attraction being, you will get or be what you think about most of the time. You can not help but take a man’s word when he has achieved such prestige and success. At one point in the video Will states, “There is no reason to have a plan B because it distracts from plan A”. Simply put, if you really want something, you have to focus like the course of your life and your chance for success depends on it. Actually, that very well might be the case.

  • Finally, refuse to be realistic.

The most important quote from Will in this video (something I have posted where I can see it everyday)...

“Being realistic is the most commonly traveled road to mediocrity” - Will Smith

Do not get weighed down by anything or anyone who feels you are not being realistic with your goals or plans. Do not be afraid to dream and shoot for goals others feel are unrealistic. If we take each point of Will’s advice, there is no reason why the unrealistic dreams and aspirations we place for ourselves can not be achieved.

In closing...

However complete you or I feel my summary of this video to be, it does no justice towards watching the man himself so passionately explain his philosophy of success. Take ten minutes out of your day to watch this butt-kicking, mind-blowing video.

Awesome video! I had no idea his perspective of life. He may be more suitable as a motivational speaker!
