ProsAmanda Seyfried and Meryl Streep give wonderful performances as the stars of this silly, inspirational movie.
The musical selections add to the fun of the movie and, for the most part, blend very well into the script.
The visual appeal is wonderful, as the island backdrop and intense coloring add to the beauty of the plot.
ConsPierce Brosnan's musical performances are lacking in a lot of the songs sung by the actor. More would be expected from a hit musical such as Mamma Mia!.
The climax is disappointing for the most part and unbelievable.
Full ReviewThis visually- appealing musical movie stars Amanda Seyfried as a bride-to-be and Meryl Streep as her mother. On the Greek island Kalokairi, the bride-to-be invites her three possible fathers to her wedding in an attempt to find out who her father is. The possible fathers are played by Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, and Stellan Skarsgard. The movie plays out on the bride-to-be's day before her wedding and wedding day. The movie Mamma Mia! features the songs of international pop stars ABBA. Mamma Mia! was produced by Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson and written by Catherine Johnson. The movie was released in theaters in 2008 in America and the United Kingdom.
The visual appeal and musical selections liken the movie to Moulin Rouge!, another visually stimulating and silly musical movie released in 2001.
Mamma Mia! overall got good reviews upon it's initial release, with most notable negative reviews based on Pierce Brosnan's weak singing performances.
In ClosingMamma Mia! is a fun distraction for the nearly two hours it plays out on a wonderfully-apealling backdrop which bekkons the viewer to hop a plane to Greece and find out for one's self whether Kalokairi is in fact as beautiful as the movie depicts the backdrop as being. In all, this movie would rate 4 out of 5 stars, with a few weak musical selections and climax being the main factors bringing the score down. The marvelous performance of the cast and outrageous dance sequences contribute to the high score.
