Moving Blankets: An Overview

By | Aug 23, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

In transit during moves, it is not rare to see your valuable belongings get damaged. Your heirlooms, antiques, and other well earned belongings can get dented and scratched in the back of a truck during hauling. An easy way to solve this too common of a problem among movers is to use what is known as Moving Blankets.

A moving blanket serves as a padding or a cushion when wrapped around your furnitures during transfers. What it does is it absorbs the force of minor bumps and frictions; thus, ensuring that your precious belongings are free and protected from deformities and damage. Moving blankets are usually made out of strong, quilted woven synthetic fabrics that are known for endurance and quality. Some of these blankets are made with cotton-padded non-woven synthetic fabrics. These two types of moving fabrics can be interchanged during use. However, comparable differences between the two could easily be noticed by anyone. First, quilted moving blankets are heavier and have better quality and durability compared to their non-woven counterpart. Woven blankets also cost more than a non-woven one. Thus, if you are planning on reusing your purchased moving blanket over and over again, then it will be safer for you to have the quilted woven type.

Moving blankets are known by many terms in the moving business. They could be referred to as van pads, moving pad, quilted moving blankets, or furniture moving blankets. Though known by many names, three basic things should never be taken out of consideration. The most important and obvious is how much the blanket weighs. Heavier and thicker moving blankets are much more recommended for use compared to lighter and thinner moving blankets. This is so because a heavy and thick blanket has more cotton in between its quilted fabric; thus, giving more secure protection to your furniture. The second consideration one must have is whether the fabric used is woven or non-woven. As stated earlier, woven and quilted moving blankets is more durable compared to its non-woven counterpart. The last thing one must consider is the binding quality of the blanket itself. The binding refers to the fabric around the external edge of the blanket that holds the entire pad together. Thus, better binding means longer usage life.
