Moving Blankets - Soundproof Loud Rooms
Moving blankets are used by professional movers and people in general to protect furniture. They do however have many other uses such as providing soundproofing. Amateur singers and bands use moving blankets to soundproof a room while rehearsing and recording their music. They are very good at keeping all kinds of loud sounds in a certain room. A great use for them inside a home would be if one of your children is in a school band. You probably would want to keep the thumping sound from his school instrument inside the confines of his room.
With moving blankets you can achieve a great level of success. It won't block out all the noise if your child has a professional 8 piece drum set but they will block out much of the noise from music and most other instruments. Installing them in a room would require a little homework. The idea is to place them near the walls but not exactly on the wall. You need to leave some space between the wall and the moving blanket.
The thicker the moving blanket the more noise you can restrict to a room. Generally the extra padded cotton variety work best. You can probably have the most success if you use the moving blankets in a place that is not inside your home. The garage would be a great place to put them up. If done correctly you nor the neighbors would have reason to complain when your child is practicing his heart out pounding on massive drums.
