Dyson Multi-floor Vs Animal -- What's the Difference?

By Edited Aug 14, 2016 0 0

A pretty common source of confusion that many potential buyers of a brand new Dyson vacuum cleaner come across -- is the lack of clarification on the difference between the versions of the vacuum cleaners (e.g. DC41 Mulit-floor and DC41 Animal) and which one should they get. This article informs you of those subtle differential factors between the versions as well as helping you to be clear on which one is right for you.

But, to clarify the confusion for now: every model of vacuum Dyson produce (e.g. DC39, DC40 & DC41) there are at least two versions: the multi-floor which is the basic (yellow) version provides you with the two accessories -- combination tool & stair tool. The second being the animal (purple) version which is meant for those who suffer with a pet hair problem, so that version simply comes with an extra special pet hair attachment & is hence a little more expensive.

Multi-floor Versus Animal

Like the above states, the only major variation between the versions of a Dyson vacuum cleaner i.e a Dyson multi floor vacuum and that of a Dyson animal -- comes in the simple fact that the latter comes with an additional accessory (as well as the minor variation of a colour change -- where the multi-floor version of the vacuum comes usually in the classic Dyson 'yellow' and the animal is usually 'purple' -- and the Animal complete, which we talk about later, comes in a 'pink' shade).

But before, we get into discussion of 'additional' accessories, I believe to be clear on the topic: 'of what comes with what version' -- we should firstly discuss what comes with a standard Dyson multi-floor vacuum. To carry on and take the example of the Dyson DC41 Multi-floor (see just below) -- with regards to attachments/accessories you are provided with -- you get two: (i) the combination tool (which is a crevice tool for vacuuming awkward gaps/areas which can also be used for a brush nozzle for powered dusting) and a stair tool (which is designed for vertical cleaning and awkward angles that stairs often present, it can also be used for a variety of upholstery).

DC41 Multi Floor

Multi-floor version comes with a 'combination tool' and 'stair tool'.

Now the only difference in which the Dyson (DC41) Multi-floor and Dyson (DC41) Animal (see just below) varies is with the 'additional' accessory provided to the Animal (and of course the colour change) which is simply a mini turbine tool used specifically for picking up pet hair efficiently and effectively -- (in the case of the DC41, but some of the older models have the older version) the very highly regarded (just check out some of its 5 star reviews) Dyson Tangle Free turbine tool.

So in other words the Dyson vacuum Multi-floor gets: 'combination tool' and 'stair (upholstery) tool and the Dyson vacuum Animal gets: 'combination tool', 'stair tool' and the additional 'pet hair turbine tool'. Therefore, it is the simple fact that those who suffer with a pet hair problem in their homes are advised to get the Animal versions of the Dyson as this extra attachment will be able to 'more than' adequately deal with that issue for them. This is only the difference.

However, what people often mistake the two versions for is that the 'Animal' is an upgrade to the 'Multi-floor', which in truth is not the case (it is simply a different accessory bundle package). The only reason it is slightly more expensive is due to this extra pet hair tool attachment that is provided (which can actually be bought separately, in case you bought a multi-floor version and decided later that a pet hair turbine would be useful to you).

Where both the Multi floor and the Animal have the exact same cleaning performance (fitted Root Cyclone technology, suction air watt power), features (adjustable cleaning head etc.) and specifications (size, weight, bin capacity) -- they are actually the same vacuum model. Again, taking the DC41 comparison -- the DC41 Multi-floor and DC41 Animal both have Radial Root Cyclone (allowing for no loss of suction), a huge 255 Air Watts of cleaning suction. Moreover, both offer a 2.1 litres bin capacity, with a max reach of just over 25 metres (combining telescope -- max reach and cord length) and offer the same dimensions in size -- Height: 42.4, Width: 13.4, and Depth: 15.4 inches.

Animal version comes with the 'combination tool', 'stair tool' and 'tangle free turbine tool'.

Now you maybe unknowing of other versions of the vacuum (usually as they are sold through independent retailers) but all they imply is that there is again a difference in the accessories fitted with the package (the actual vacuum cleaner in terms of cleaning power etc. doesn't actually change). For instance the DC41 Animal also comes as a Complete version all this means is that it is fitted with yet further additional accessories to that of the DC41 Animal such as a soft dusting brush, stubborn dirt brush etc. all of which can be used to further improve the cleaning multi-functionality of the Dyson vacuum (and can again all be bought separately). Which because you buy them all as a bundle Dyson offers a significant discount and hence you are getting better value for your money.

Another version to check out for is 'Limited Editions' and 'Indie/Independent' e.g. DC41i -- all these versions are, is a different coloured skin (silver/red mesh) and the stubborn dirt brush/flexi crevice tool comes in addition to the standard package (combination tool, stair tool).
